2 Separate Highway 50 Crashes near South Lake Tahoe

I’m Ed Smith, a South Lake Tahoe Car Accident Lawyer. There were two, unrelated crashes that happened on Highway 50 in Nevada on Sunday, August 13.

What Happened?

In one of the car accidents, a white, new model Toyota 4Runner lost control and ended up rolling over causing serious damage to the vehicle and minor injuries to the occupants. The sports utility vehicle ended up on its side after the crash, blocking almost half of the four-lane highway. Rescuers used wedge blocks to stabilize the vehicle after the rollover and keep the SUV from rolling onto its roof during the extrication and clean-up efforts. Traffic was diverted over to one side of the highway for about half an hour.

The other accident involved two cars. The driver of a red sports sedan was not paying attention to the road ahead and slammed into a white Toyota pickup truck. The lowered height of the sedan caused it to hit the bottom of the rear bumper and frame of the, what appears to be a lifted, Toyota. The stoutness of the frame proved too much for the hood and top edge of the sedan’s grill which peeled back and crumpled up. Photos show minimal damage to the small pickup and major deformation of the red sedan. The Nevada Highway Patrol reported minor injuries were also caused by the crash.

Accident Recovery

Even though the victims of these car accidents received only minor injuries which are not life-threatening, they can still be life-changing. Bruising, tissue tears, muscle soreness, and bone fractures are all common injuries that happen to people in accidents. A lot of these injuries may require medical attention such as surgeries, casts, and braces. The healing process does not end there either. It is important to also recover strength, mobility, and flexibility after an injured area is stable enough. Physical therapy can help you return to the level of activity you had before the injury or better.

Therapists know which muscles and actions were most affected by an injury and which exercises will help strengthen them specifically without further injuring or damaging the area. They are like personal trainers for people with injuries.

Techniques and modalities that speed up healing are also used in many therapy clinics. Electrical stimulation, ultrasound, light therapy, and massage are all great tools of a therapist’s “toolbox” that can reduce pain, swelling, and make the healing process faster and more bearable.

For people who injured their back and neck in a car accident, Chiropractors can also be a great resource. Realigning and retraining the spine to its proper form can prevent further pain and injury from overcompensating while weak and in pain.
