4 People Injured after Antioch Collision

What Happened?
At approximately 10:35 a.m. on Sunday, October 8th, the Antioch Police Department responded to a report that a vehicle rolled over around Hillcrest Avenue by the Crossings Shopping Center. They arrived at the crash site to discover that a black SUV had been driving north down Hillcrest Avenue before abruptly crashing into a tree in the center median. Afterwards, the SUV crossed over to the southbound lanes of the traffic-heavy roadway. A silver sedan traveling south on Hillcrest Avenue then struck the SUV as it entered the opposing lane of traffic. A third vehicle also collided with the SUV after it crossed into the southbound lane.
Emergency Response Teams to the Rescue
Emergency medical crews arrived on scene with a total of four ambulance trucks. Additionally, the Contra Costa County Fire District responded with an engine and two ladder trucks. Four persons recieved medical care, including a pregnant woman. Two people had injuries described as “major,” however no one suffered life threatening injuries.
The investigation of this accident is far from over, however there have been preliminary discoveries that suggest alcohol and excessive speeding may have caused the three-car collision.

In the year 2015 alone, 384 auto accidents occurred in Antioch. 508 people were injured and 10 people were killed in that years accident. There were 36 pedestrian-related accidents, 35 motorcycle-related accidents, 18 bike accidents, and 4 truck accidents in the city during that year. With a population of approximately 110,898 people, these statistics are concerning.
