Local Restaurant Owner Fatally Injured in Dixon Hit-and-Run Collision
On Sunday, November 8, 2020, a local woman lost her life as the result of a Dixon hit-and-run collision. The woman was identified by authorities of Solano County as Adelina Rendon Diaz, a 70-year-old resident of Dixon and local restaurant owner. According to reports, Rendon Diaz’s husband was also seriously injured as a result of the incident. The Dixon Police Department (DPD) has since been able to identify the missing driver, a 31-year-old man, and are actively searching for him.
Crash Information
The accident happened at around 8:00 p.m. near East B and North First Streets in Dixon, near Rendon Diaz’ restaurant, Taqueria Adelina. Police were first notified about the incident by a caller asking officers to check on a woman lying on the ground.
When DPD responders reached the scene, they found that a Good Samaritan was already performing CPR on Rendon Diaz. At this point, officers took over in an effort to revive the unresponsive woman. When firefighters arrived, they also attempted life-saving medical procedures. However, Rendon Diaz tragically passed away and was pronounced deceased on-site.
Rendon Diaz’s husband, a 71-year-old man, was found nearby, and responders discovered that he had sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Officials have since indicated that his injuries were not life-threatening.
Investigation and Search
By late Monday, DPD had discovered a white 2010 Nissan Murano with Virginia plates and reported it as a “vehicle of interest” in relation to the accident. The following day, police were able to positively identify the vehicle as the car involved in the deadly collision. Shortly after, investigators identified the driver and obtained a warrant for his arrest. As of the latest reports, police believed that the man might be driving toward Mexico or Southern California.
Fundraiser
Rendon Diaz’s grandchildren have started an online fundraising campaign in order to help their family after the loss of their loved one. Money donated to the fundraiser will go toward helping the family pay for Rendon Diaz’ funeral as well as cover her husband’s medical expenses.
On the fundraiser page, Rendon Diaz’ family writes that she was known as a “sweet and hardworking lady” and that they are “beyond grateful” for the contributions and prayers of their community during such a difficult time.
Hit-and-Run Accidents and Recovering Compensation
Without a negligent driver to hold accountable, families affected by hit-and-run collisions frequently worry that they will be unable to claim any compensation for medical bills, lost income, and other important damages they’ve suffered. However, it’s often possible to obtain this compensation through your own insurance policy by utilizing “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.”
However, this kind of coverage isn’t universal, and the amount of money available to you and your family can differ depending on your specific policy. The best way to find out what you can recover is to speak personally with an attorney about your situation.
Calling an Attorney
Families facing fatal accidents often feel devastated, and dealing with grief can be overwhelming. During this time, it’s important to do what you can to help yourself and your loved ones cope. However, many families can’t focus on healing because they’ve been left in a dire financial situation.
Fortunately, families in this situation can reach out for help. To learn more about recovering compensation for your financial and personal losses following a deadly car accident, it’s important to contact an expert attorney as soon as you possibly can.
