Accident near La Lima Way Results in Major Injuries

On October 26, a section of Garden Highway off La Lima Way was shut down due to a major injury accident. According to officials with the Sacramento Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:31 in the afternoon and was a single-vehicle collision in an area between Orchard Lane and Gateway Oaks Drive. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle and exited the road for unknown reasons and crashed into several trees.

Two People Suffer a Major Injury in Single-Vehicle Crash

A man and pregnant woman riding in the vehicle were both reported to have suffered major injuries. A dog in the car with them at the time of the crash died. Emergency responders transported the injured man and woman to a hospital for evaluation and further treatment. No information was released on the identity or age of the patients. The accident is under investigation by Sacramento police to determine what caused the driver to lose control of their vehicle. Motorists were advised to take an alternate route to avoid major delays.

Causes of Collisions by One Vehicle

Many single-vehicle accidents that result in a major injury are caused by driver error. However, there are other contributing factors that can lead to this type of accident that are beyond the driver’s control. They may include, among others:

  • Auto defect: When a motor vehicle has defective brakes, steering, accelerator or other parts, it may cause an accident resulting in a major injury. Because the vehicle has to be checked to look for defective parts, it is important for a car or truck to be preserved following an accident for examination.
  • Hit-and-run driver: The absence of another motorist may lead one to think the accident involved only a single vehicle. However, reviewing traffic cameras, roadway damage, and other evidence can show that another driver caused the accident and then fled the scene.
  • The driver had to swerve to avoid an accident: On two-lane roads, a driver might have to swerve to avoid a head-on collision if another vehicle heading toward them is passing unsafely.
  • Government negligence: A government entity, whether city, county or state, is charged with providing proper maintenance for a roadway. When potholes are present, debris is left on the road, limbs overhang signs or guardrails are weak, it can cause a major injury accident. While the government entity may be held responsible for an accident caused by their negligence, it is important to enlist the services of a skilled lawyer. The process is different than for other types of personal injury claims. If the claim is filed incorrectly or too late, it will not be heard in court.

Investigating a Crash

An experienced injury lawyer can help those who have suffered injuries because of negligence to obtain the compensation they deserve. This is by conducting an investigation into the cause to locate the at-fault party. Our investigators are adept at uncovering that evidence, which includes:

  • Checking the motor vehicle for auto defects
  • Reviewing the police report for errors and interviewing witnesses to the collision
  • Performing accident reconstruction, which shows how the crash occurred and can include uncovering fault
  • Checking nearby business and traffic surveillance cameras to see if the collision was captured on video
