Major Injury Motorcycle Accident Occurs at Arden Way Intersection
A motorcycle accident with another vehicle in Sacramento occurred on June 28 at an intersection. The collision occurred in the Arden-Arcade area around 11:07 a.m. along westbound Arden Way and Avondale Avenue, spreading debris across the lanes. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene and was in the post office parking lot.
Rider Hospitalized in Vehicle Versus Motorcycle Accident
The injured motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The rider’s bike was removed from the scene. A determination of fault in the collision and how it occurred is underway by the CHP traffic accident unit.
Common Reasons for Accidents Involving Motorcyclists
The road presents motorcyclists with a number of dangers, including negligent drivers and poorly maintained highways that can cause injuries. There are a number of dangers on the road that can cause an accident for a motorcycle rider, such as:
- Distracted driving: Texting drivers, talking on their cell phones, adjusting their radios, or doing anything else that takes their attention off the road puts them at risk for accidents.
- Speed: The occurrence of collisions between motorcyclists and speeding motorists is quite common. As a result of their longer stopping distances and the possibility of losing control, speeders pose a threat to everyone on the road.
- Drunk driving: Having an impaired driver on the road can cause a motorcycle accident. When a driver is intoxicated, they have difficulty staying in their own lane and may weave, which puts other road users at risk.
- Left-turning drivers: It is not uncommon for drivers to turn in front of motorcyclists, resulting in crashes. It is imperative that the driver remains alert in these situations for oncoming traffic. The speed and distance of a vehicle cannot be judged easily, so extra caution is needed to avoid a collision.
- Lack of roadway maintenance: Motorcycle crashes can result in serious injuries due to poorly maintained roads. Because of poor government maintenance, there can be poor lighting, potholes, and upheavals in the pavement that can result in motorcycle accidents. In the event of an injury accident, the government entity responsible for maintenance can be held liable. People injured have only six months to file their claims, which means they should consult a lawyer right away.
Recovering Compensation by Filing a Claim
Motorcycle riders can have difficulty dealing with insurance companies and civil courts if they are falsely perceived as being responsible for their own accidents.
