Accident Near the I-5 Connector Results in a Major Injury
A major injury was reported in a multiple-vehicle crash in Sacramento on December 6 that involved two full-sized pickups. The accident left one individual stuck inside their pickup and one vehicle facing sideways, blocking the slow lane. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the collision occurred around 4:45 p.m. along southbound SR 99 just north of the I-5 connector.
Freeway Lanes Blocked by Multiple-Vehicle Crash
All the lanes were blocked by the collision, which caused motorists to turn their vehicles around in the center divider. First responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess injuries. Whether the trapped individual was able to be removed from their pickup or had to be extricated by fire personnel was not reported.
One Major Injury Reported in Freeway Collision
One patient was transported by medics to UC Davis Medical Center with major injuries. The lanes were all reopened around 5:39 p.m. The CHP is investigating the major injury crash to determine how it occurred.
Car Accident Injuries
Those who are involved in a traffic accident, especially at higher speeds such as on a freeway, often suffer a major injury. This unexpected event not only leaves the injured person with pain and suffering but can result in astronomical medical bills and the inability to work. When the negligent actions of another driver or other entity, such as a poorly maintained roadway was the cause of your injuries, you may be able to place a claim for compensation.
Why Using an Injury Lawyer Is a Good Idea in a Multiple-Vehicle Crash
It’s been shown that using an injury lawyer to place a claim following an accident ends up with the injured party recovering a much higher settlement. In addition, injury lawyers work on a contingency basis. This means that their client owes nothing until they’ve won the case. Another added benefit is that the injured person can spend their time concentrating on getting well while the lawyer shoulders the burden of getting them the compensation they deserve.
Negligence in a Multiple-Vehicle Crash
In any accident involving multiple vehicles, perhaps one driver can be found at fault. However, other drivers may have been equally negligent and contributed to the collision and accident injuries. An injury lawyer can conduct an investigation to determine who was negligent, so they can be held responsible financially. Some of the common types of negligence that can lead to a multiple-vehicle crash include:
- Tailgating can lead to a multiple-vehicle crash when another driver slows suddenly.
- Speeding is a common cause of all types of accidents because of the increased distance needed to stop and more difficulty maintaining control of the vehicle.
- Distracted driving, such as changing a radio station, texting and chatting with passengers, or on a phone removes the driver’s attention and can cause a multiple-vehicle crash.
- Fatigue has been compared to drunk driving in its effects. The driver may veer out of their lane or even fall asleep behind the wheel.
- Drunk driving is still a major cause of a multiple-vehicle crash because the driver has slowed reflexes, exhibits poor judgment, and cannot judge their distance from other vehicles.
