Major Injury Redding Bicycle Collision
Officers of the Redding Police Department (RPD) have reported that a serious traffic accident took place in Redding on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. The accident reportedly happened on a wet road around dawn and involved a passenger vehicle and a male bicyclist. The bicyclist was left with major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital to receive emergency medical care. The bicyclist was not identified by officials and, at the time of reporting, updates on the condition of the injured individual remain unavailable. RPD has reported that their investigators are still looking into what factors may have caused the collision.
Collision Details
Police reported that the accident happened at about 6:38 a.m. at the intersection of Hilltop Drive and Browning Street close to the Redding Best Buy location. According to reports, a passenger vehicle and a bicyclist had been traveling south along Hilltop Drive when they collided while traveling through the intersection of Browning Street. Descriptions of the vehicle were not available.
Response
When RPD received notification of the accident, response officials were immediately sent to the scene. Medical responders reported that the bicyclist was discovered in the roadway with severe trauma. However, the exact nature of the man’s injuries was not reported. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident to cooperate with responders.
Investigation
RPD closed down the intersection for hours while an initial investigation of the crash site was completed. Reports stated that the roadway was open again at about 9:00 a.m. after dangerous debris had been removed from the intersection. As the investigation into the accident continues, RPD has not stated what factors they think might have caused this crash. Common factors in vehicle/bicycle accidents include driving while distracted, a lack of bike lanes on the roadway, poor visibility, improper lane changes, and more.
