Two-Vehicle Crash at Madison Avenue Intersection Causes Major Injury

A two-vehicle crash in Citrus Heights resulted in a major injury recently. The accident happened along eastbound Madison Avenue and Primrose Drive around 11:13 in the morning, which was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A van and Toyota Camry were involved in the intersection crash, which blocked the roadway.

Major Injury Reported in Two-Vehicle Crash

Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene to assess any injuries, and at least one person was transported to a hospital for treatment. The CHP has not said whether alcohol or drug use was a factor in the collision. The accident is under investigation by authorities to determine the cause.

Causes of Intersection Accidents

Two-vehicle accidents are common at intersections. This is because traffic is converging from multiple directions and is complicated by the presence of pedestrians, motorcyclists and bicyclists. However, some of the most common reasons for an accident at an intersection include:

  • The at-fault driver has been drinking or using drugs.
  • The driver runs a stop sign or red light.
  • The motorist with the right of way has their car struck by someone who refused to yield.
  • One of the drivers makes an illegal turn.
  • While turning, a driver tries to change lanes or comes too close to another vehicle, causing a sideswipe two-vehicle crash.
  • A driver is distracted by texting, talking on their cell phone, or other behaviors.
  • The driver is fatigued from staying up late the night before or doing shift work. Other causes can include medications the individual is taking or someone who has sleep apnea.
  • The motorist strikes another car in the rear that is waiting to cross, which pushes the vehicle into the intersection.

Common Injuries in a Two-Vehicle Crash

Accidents at lower speeds can cause severe injuries, which can require hospitalization and a long recuperative period. Some of the injuries that can occur include:

  • Cervical sprain can happen in any accident but is most common in rear-end collisions. Many of these types of injuries heal in a few weeks. However, some can go on for a year or more and cause pain in the neck, shoulders, arms or back.
  • Traumatic head injuries are a major cause of serious trauma in an accident. They may range from concussions to hemorrhage into the brain and other life-threatening conditions.
  • Back injuries and spinal cord damage can occur, especially if the vehicle is struck in a T-bone accident.
  • Broken bones are common, and the severity depends on the seriousness of the break and location.
  • Chest injuries are caused by striking the dash or steering wheel.
  • Abdominal trauma happens because of the seat belt or airbags.

Intersection Accident Investigations

Because an intersection accident can be caused by a number of different factors, having an experienced Citrus Heights attorney by your side can make the difference in whether or not you obtain compensation. Our investigators review the accident report for inaccuracies and interview witnesses to the major injury crash. In addition, they perform accident reconstruction, which shows how the collision occurred and can uncover fault by the other driver.

Additional Investigation

Surveillance film is sought from nearby traffic and road cameras. Investigators also look for government negligence that could have contributed to a two-vehicle crash, such as malfunctioning lights, poor lane markers, or blocked views. Our lawyers use all the gathered evidence to construct a case that favors our client.
