Man Killed After Big Rig Crash in Stanislaus County
A big rig crash in northern Stanislaus County resulted in a man from Gilroy being killed on the evening of Saturday, August 8, 2020. The trucking collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Crows Landing Road in the vicinity of Ehrlich Road. A man was driving a 1998 GMC truck hauling a one-axle trailer southbound on Crows Landing Road. At the same time, a 2015 Volvo big rig was headed northbound on Crows Landing. For unknown reasons, the GMC and the Volvo tractor-trailer collided. The driver of the Volvo was uninjured in the semi-truck collision. Sadly, the driver of the GMC passed away at the scene. Officials have identified him as 62-year-old Eric Lynn Ollis of Gilroy.
Loss of a Loved One
Losing someone you love in a truck accident is incredibly challenging to deal with. This is especially true if it was unexpected and could have been prevented altogether. When this happens, surviving family members may be able to seek justice and financial compensation through a wrongful death claim filed against the truck driver and trucking company. Keep in mind that time is of the essence in these cases as letters of preservation of evidence must be sent immediately to the truck firm. Such evidence is necessary for proving a claim and obtaining the wrongful death damages a family rightfully deserves. An experienced Modesto personal injury attorney can help a family by handling all aspects of their wrongful death case and proving negligence on the part of the trucker and trucking company.
What are the Most Common Causes of a Stanislaus County Big Rig Crash?
Commercial truck accidents happen when drivers are under strict time restrictions and their need to get from point A to point B. When a truck driver causes a collision, it is often the result of:
- Driver fatigue due to working extended shifts to meet delivery deadlines, lack of rest time between shifts, and other reasons
- Failing to come to a complete stop at red lights, stop signs, and slowed or stopped traffic
- Impairment due to alcohol consumption or drug use
- Insufficient truck driver training or experience behind the wheel of a big rig
- Not obeying the rules of the road
- Speeding
While truck drivers are expected to put safety first, trucking firms may also be held financially accountable for improper hiring practices, inadequate supervision of truckers, and insufficient semi-truck maintenance and repairs. Is it Worth Hiring a Truck Accident Lawyer?
Truck drivers hired by commercial transport trucking companies are generally required to carry high bodily injury liability coverage by federal law. The amount of insurance coverage available depends on whether the cargo is hazardous or non-hazardous, among other criteria in federal guidelines. Since the damages are often serious when a big rig is involved in a crash with a passenger vehicle, this means truckers and trucking firms have insurance claims adjusters and defense attorneys at their side to minimize their financial liability.
Do not allow you and your family to be taken advantage of by insurance companies representing negligent truckers and truck firms. Hiring an experienced attorney can help protect your legal rights and options for recovery.
