Loss of a Loved One in a Fatal Accident
The loss of a loved one forever impacts the lives of surviving family members. When the loss was the result of someone else’s negligence, it can compound the grieving process for survivors leading to experiences of anger and frustration. In such situations, California law allows surviving relatives to seek compensation from those responsible through a wrongful death claim.
Surviving family members who bring a wrongful death case may seek compensation for economic and non-economic damages. This may include end-of-life medical expenses, funeral costs, lost future financial support, and loss of companionship, care, and guidance. Punitive damages may also be sought from the at-fault party for egregious conduct like impaired driving. What You Should Know About Car Accidents and Insurance Companies
The process of calculating the value of a personal injury claim is often challenging as unique facts and circumstances are involved in each one. People experience pain and suffering in their own different ways and many insurance companies often attempt to downplay the value of cases. The same can be said for wrongful death claims.
While most would like to believe that the personal injury and wrongful death claims process is straightforward, it is often not. For this reason, the best course of action is to consult with a lawyer who is experienced in handling personal injury and wrongful death cases. An attorney will know how to evaluate the case, determine its worth, and be prepared to litigate it to ensure you receive fair compensation.
