Man Fatally Injured During Oroville Car Crash
On Friday, March 19, 2021, one man tragically passed away after he was involved in an Oroville car crash. California Highway Patrol (CHP) states that the accident involved one car and that only a single individual was in the vehicle at the time. The Butte County Sheriff’s Department identified the decedent as Eugene Lopez, a 34-year-old resident of Martinez. According to CHP, officers are still actively investigating this terrible crash.
Crash Details
According to police, the crash took place at an unknown time on Foothill Boulevard near the Snake Road intersection. While officers aren’t sure of exactly when the accident happened, local residents reported an unknown disturbance sometime during the night. CHP was made aware of the accident at about 8:00 a.m. when they were contacted by area homeowners who reported a wrecked vehicle.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, police stated that they believe that Lopez left the Gold Country Casino and that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it approached a tight, sudden curve in the road. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle drove off-road and crashed into a tree, overturning at some point during the incident. Lopez was reportedly partially ejected through a window as a result of the impact.
When responders arrived the next morning, they sadly pronounced that Lopez had lost his life due to injuries sustained in the accident.
Investigation
As investigations continue, police have not confirmed any suspected accident factors. However, the area residents that reported the accident indicated that many similar accidents happen in the same location and that they believe that a lack of turn signals preceding the curve in the road contributes to the frequency of area car accidents.
Fully investigating accidents with no survivors is difficult for police, and they may never fully understand all of the factors that caused it. Unfortunately, this often means that the decedent’s family is left unable to claim the payments that they deserve through a wrongful death claim. For this reason, you should make sure to contact an Oroville wrongful death lawyer who can conduct their own accident investigation and ensure that your family’s interests are fairly represented.
Rollover Accidents and Liability
When vehicles overturn, occupants are very at risk for suffering major injuries. This is largely because of roof crush injuries which occur when the roof of a car cannot withstand an impact. Because car companies are expected to ensure the safety of their vehicles, accidents that involve roof crush injuries are often considered “products liability cases.” This means that the car company may be considered negligent and held liable for accident damages. In order to claim these payments, it’s important to preserve the wrecked car as case evidence.
Wrongful Death Damages
Replacing someone that you’ve lost is sadly impossible. However, families can often obtain payments for both economic and personal damages after a case of wrongful death. To learn about what you may be able to obtain, it is best to speak personally with a skilled lawyer. However, for a quick overview of wrongful death damages, watch this video:
