Merced Auto Accident Injures Two — A woman crashed into a tree after attempting to flee from the scene of an auto accident in Merced on November 5, 2018. The collision occurred shortly after 5:00 in the afternoon at the intersection of Olive Avenue and McKee Road. A Honda was slowing for the northbound stop sign at the intersection when the driver was rear-ended by a pickup truck. The Honda driver pulled over to exchange information when the motorist in the truck reportedly drove away from the scene. The truck driver sped off to Silverado Avenue moments before striking a tree at the intersection of McKee Avenue. According to officials, the driver of the Honda suffered a neck injury while the woman in the truck sustained a facial injury. However, authorities said neither of the injuries sustained were believed to be life-threatening.
Neck Injuries and Car Accidents
Any type of car accident has the potential to cause serious injuries. One of the most common injuries from such accidents are those involving trauma to the neck. A neck injury can range from cervical sprains and strains to disc injuries and spinal cord damage. Some common symptoms of a neck injury include sharp pain, headaches, soreness, numbness, nausea, tiredness or difficulty sleeping, and pain or problems with movement. Even if a car accident may not seem severe at the time, it is essential to watch for any of the symptoms previously discussed and seek medical attention promptly.
Common Reasons for Hit and Run Accidents
Although fleeing the scene of a motor vehicle accident is illegal, some drivers still do so. Some of the common reasons for hit and run accidents include the following:
- Driving on a suspended license
- Distracted driving
- Drunk driving
- Lack of automobile insurance
Recourse in Hit and Run Accidents
In cases where the offending driver remains at large, an injured party may resort to his or her own automobile insurance policy with uninsured motorist coverage. A claim for resultant damages including medical expenses, time lost from work, and other accident-related costs may be allowable against that policy. Additionally, if an injured party has Med Pay, his or her insurer will provide reimbursement for medical bills incurred, regardless of the fault of the insured motorist or any other party. Even if an individual has purchased any of the two coverages previously mentioned, an insurance provider may be skeptical of his or her claim or even deny coverage. Contacting an experienced car accident attorney in Merced can make the difference. An attorney can investigate the facts and provide evidence of the accident to the insurer to reach a favorable outcome on your behalf.
