Causes of a Two-Vehicle Crash at an Intersection
Two-vehicle accidents at intersections are a common type of motor vehicle accident. These collisions can be caused by a variety of factors, including driver error, poor visibility and dangerous road conditions.
Driver Error Can Cause a Two-Vehicle Crash
Driver error is the most frequent cause of two-vehicle collisions at intersections. Common errors include failure to yield the right-of-way and running through red lights or stop signs. Drivers may also fail to activate their turn signals in advance when making turns or misjudge distances between their vehicles and others on the road. Speeding and distracted driving can also contribute to intersection accidents as drivers cannot anticipate sudden movements from fellow motorists in time to prevent an impact.
Poor Visibility Due to Government Neglect
Visibility issues can increase the likelihood of two-vehicle collisions at intersections. Poorly lit roads, inadequate signage and obstructed views due to buildings, trees or other structures can all reduce the visibility of oncoming drivers and make it difficult for them to spot each other in time to avoid a crash. If government neglect causes a two-vehicle crash, the injured parties may file a claim to recover compensation. The time limit to file is only six months, so getting help from an injury lawyer may be a good idea.
Dangerous road conditions caused by government negligence can also contribute to two-vehicle collisions at intersections. Potholes and debris on the roadway can all impede driver visibility and lead to accidents if drivers are unable to adjust their speed or direction quickly enough. In some cases, faulty traffic signals may also be responsible for increasing the risk of intersection collisions by causing confusion among motorists.
Injuries and Compensation
In the event of an accident, you may be eligible for compensation. Depending on the nature and circumstances of your injury, you may be entitled to compensation for the following:
- Your injury-related medical bills
- Loss of wages or earning capacity
- Loss of benefits from the inability to work
- Damages caused by pain and suffering
- Companionship or consortium lost
- Damages caused by emotional distress
Not all cases qualify for every type of compensation. You can seek guidance from an accident attorney about what types of damages might be recoverable in your case. Additionally, having a qualified attorney on your side can assist you in the negotiation and claims process, since they are familiar with the laws surrounding personal injury cases.
