Accident Along Walerga Road Involves Pedestrian

A pedestrian was struck in a motor vehicle accident in Sacramento on July 7. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the accident occurred at 8:55 a.m. along Walerga Road between Oak Hollow Drive and Hillsdale Boulevard. The driver of the vehicle that struck the man remained at the scene and was cooperating with police in their investigation.

Pedestrian Moved Out of Harm’s Way

It was reported that the male pedestrian was initially lying in the roadway, however, he was moved off the road by people on the scene and was apparently conscious. The number two northbound lane of Walerga Road in the Foothill Farms area was blocked just south of Oak Hollow Drive while an investigation ensued. No report was issued on whether the pedestrian was treated at the scene or transported to a hospital for treatment.

Pedestrian Injuries in a Motor Vehicle Accident

Forty percent of all fatalities in Sacramento County in 2018 involved pedestrians. A number of factors lead to injuries and fatalities, but many are caused by driver error. Because a pedestrian has little to no protection when involved in an accident with a motor vehicle, the injuries can be serious. In addition, it has been proven that the faster the vehicle’s speed, the higher the risk of devastating injuries and fatalities. Some of the most common types of injuries in a pedestrian accident include:

  • Broken bones are probably the most common injuries suffered by a pedestrian in a motor vehicle accident. Compound or complex fractures may require surgery and placement of pins to repair.
  • Traumatic brain injuries range from concussion to hemorrhage that can require emergency surgery and long hospitalization.
  • Spinal cord injuries can lead to complete or partial paralysis.
  • Crush injuries can be devastating and occur anywhere on the body. A high risk of fatality comes with a crush injury, depending on its location.
  • Chest injuries can include broken ribs and damage to the lungs or heart.
  • Abdominal trauma may occur and can include internal bleeding or organ damage. Abdominal injuries often require emergency surgical intervention because they can be life-threatening.

Any of these types of injuries can result in expensive medical costs, time away from work and pain and suffering. My law office has a great deal of experience in successfully handling these types of pedestrian injury cases. That way, an injured client can concentrate on recovering without the worry of accumulating bills.

Investigation of a Motor Vehicle Accident

For more than 38 years, I’ve helped those in Sacramento and surrounding Northern California get compensation for their injuries caused by a negligent driver. Our investigators go to the accident scene quickly to gather all the evidence required to support your compensation claim. This includes:

  • Getting statements from the witnesses and looking at the police report to ensure its accuracy
  • Looking for traffic and business cameras in the area that might have captured the motor vehicle accident as it happened
  • Performing accident reconstruction, which can demonstrate how the collision occurred and denote certain types of negligence by the at-fault driver
  • Looking for signs of government negligence such as poorly painted lines, traffic lights that aren’t working properly and overgrown trees and shrubs that obscure a driver’s vision

Our lawyers use the gathered evidence to construct a robust case in favor of our client. It can be used when negotiating on the client’s behalf for the compensation they deserve with the insurance company or in preparing a court case if the insurer is not cooperative.
