Collision With Pickup on the Cap City Freeway Causes Major Injury to Motorcyclist

A major injury in a motorcycle accident was reported along the Capital City Freeway in Sacramento on August 6 after it collided with a pickup truck. The collision occurred at the Fulton Avenue on-ramp around 2:41 in the afternoon. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that it involved a Dodge Ram and that the rider was lying down in the center divider.

Police Investigating Cause of Major Injury Motorcycle Accident

The pickup blocked the fast lane as well as the motorcycle. Medics with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived and concluded that the motorcycle rider had suffered a major injury. The patient was transported to a hospital. The number one lane of the freeway was shut down while the accident site was cleared, and an investigation into the cause of the accident was conducted.

Recovering Compensation After a Motorcycle Accident

Major injuries commonly occur in motorcycle accidents and can leave the injured party facing high medical bills and lost wages as well as their pain and suffering. When a negligent driver or other entity was the cause of the major injury, the rider may want to think about placing a claim for compensation. We understand how insurance companies try to place the blame on the rider and know how to counter their arguments to get you the compensation you deserve.

Causes of a Motorcycle Accident

Motorcyclists know that it can be risky to ride near drivers of passenger vehicles and big rigs. In addition, the rider has to depend on their vehicle to be safe and the roadways in good condition. After all, motorcyclists have little protection in a crash and often suffer serious injuries. Some of the reasons a major injury in a motorcycle accident happens are:

  • Turning left in front of a motorcyclist: This is the most common cause of a crash between a motorcycle and passenger vehicle or pickup. In most cases, the driver says they never saw the rider. The truth is they probably did see the motorcycle but thought they could pull out and make a left turn before the rider reached them. Because it’s difficult to judge the speed and distance of another vehicle that’s coming toward you, pulling out in front of them is dangerous.
  • Unsafe lane changes: A driver who attempts to change lanes without looking for the presence of a motorcycle first can cause a major injury motorcycle accident. This type of accident commonly occurs when a rider is lane-splitting.
  • Stopping suddenly: When a motorist stops suddenly in front of a motorcycle, the rider can end up hitting the back of the vehicle, which ejects the biker. This is a common form of a major injury motorcycle accident.
  • Speeding: Drivers who are speeding in a vehicle that weighs an average of 3,500 pounds are going to cause serious injuries if they strike a motorcyclist.
  • Defective parts: A motorcycle with a defective part, such as faulty brakes, can become involved in a serious collision. The manufacturer or designer of the faulty part can be held responsible through a product liability lawsuit.
  • Dangerous roads: A roadway that contains potholes, debris, or crumbling pavement can easily lead to a major injury motorcycle accident. When a government entity is to blame for a motorcycle crash, they can be held responsible.
