The Modesto Police Department reported that a motorcyclist was badly injured in a crash with a motor vehicle on July 17, 2023. The incident occurred near the intersection of Standiford Avenue and McHenry Avenue at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Details on the Crash in Modesto That Left a Motorcyclist Injured

Modesto PD, in a preliminary release, revealed that a vehicle was exiting a parking lot along Standiford Avenue. The vehicle allegedly turned left in front of an oncoming biker, officials said. The motorcyclist collided with the vehicle. First responders transported the biker to an area hospital for treatment. Officials last reported him in stable condition.

The westbound lanes of Standiford Avenue near McHenry Avenue were shut down for several hours for the Modesto PD Traffic Safety Unit to investigate the incident. Authorities have not yet released additional information on the crash that left the motorcyclist injured in Modesto. Those who witnessed the accident are encouraged to contact Modesto PD.

Things to Know About Motorcycle Accident Cases

The first step in a claim of bodily injury for a motorcycle accident is to identify all factors that led to the incident and identify who caused the crash. Some of the reasons for these collisions include speeding, DUI, distracted driving, making turns directly in front of oncoming bikers, not watching for motorcyclists who are lane splitting, and more. Motorcycle collisions may also be caused by roads in disrepair. In such circumstances, a claim against the public agency that owns the roadway may be held liable for damages. A six-month deadline applies to these cases instead of the general two-year statute of limitations.

It is essential for an in-depth investigation into a motorcycle collision to be conducted. This will identify which party was at fault for the incident, as more than one party may be held accountable. Conversely, California operates under a system of comparative fault. Under this system, negligence may be assigned to each party based on their contribution to the crash and the resulting damages. The total amount of compensation awarded may be decreased by the percentage of negligence assigned. Insurers often use comparative fault to dispute motorcycle accident claims and unfairly shift fault onto an injured biker.
