Man Killed in Motorcycle Accident
A 22-year-old rider was killed in a motorcycle accident this past Saturday on Highway 65 in Roseville. We send our thoughts and prayers of sympathy to the loved ones of the motorcyclist killed in this tragic collision.
Location of the Roseville Motorcycle Accident
The accident in Roseville occurred around 4:45pm on Saturday, October 7. The 22-year-old male rider was killed when his motorcycle rear-ended an SUV near Pleasant Grove Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The police report states that a 2013 Toyota Highlander was being driven in the right lane of Highway 65 by a 59-year-old woman. The vehicle was traveling at 15 MPH.
Details of how the Motorcycle Accident Happened
The motorcycle, a 2003 Yamaha, was being operated by a 22-year-old rider. The motorcyclist changed lanes and slammed into the rear of the Highlander at a high rate of speed. The rider was thrown from the bike onto the roadway. He was taken by emergency responders to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center where he passed away from his injuries. The rider has not yet been identified by police.
The female driver of the Highlander did not suffer any injuries in the crash. Police do not think that drugs or alcohol had a role in the crash. The accident is still under investigation by the CHP.
The Dangers of Highway 65
Highway 65 has been a notoriously dangerous roadway for motorcyclists in the past six years. From 2011 to 2016 there have been 11 motorcycle accidents. Two of these accidents involved alcohol and none of them resulted in fatalities. Over the past decade (2006-2016) there have been a total of 14 motorcycle accidents. None of these accidents resulted in fatalities.
The city of Roseville as a whole has been a dangerous one for motorcycle riders. From 2006 to 2016 there have been a total of 142 Roseville motorcycle accidents. Five of those accidents involved fatalities and 12 involved alcohol. Over the last six years (2011-2016) there have been 60 Roseville motorcycle accidents reported. Nine of those motorcycle accidents involved alcohol and two resulted in fatalities.
