A San Francisco collision on February 15 resulted in three fatalities after a pickup crashed into a MINI Cooper along the Bay Bridge on the lower deck. The accident occurred around 4:15 along eastbound Interstate 80, according to a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The MINI Cooper was stalled at the time.
Names of the Deceased in the San Francisco Collision to Be Released
All three people who died in the collision were riding in the MINI Cooper. The driver of the pickup experienced significant injuries and was transported to a hospital. The County Coroner’s Office will release the names of the deceased when their families have been notified. All freeway lanes were initially closed as the scene was cleared, and CHP traffic crash detectives conducted an investigation. The road reopened around 6:45 p.m.
What to Do if Your Vehicle Becomes Disabled on the Roadway
Because of the dangers of staying in traffic if your vehicle becomes disabled, using the following suggestions may help you stay safe:
- Pull over to the shoulder because oncoming traffic may strike your vehicle without realizing it isn’t moving.
- Turn your hazard lights on and place flares if you have them to alert other drivers.
- Notify 911. Officers will come to the scene. Give a detailed description of your location.
- Call roadside assistance.
- If possible, stay inside your vehicle with your seat belt on. If not, find a safe spot off the shoulder of the road to wait for help.
A Wrongful Death Lawyer Can Help You File a Claim
When a negligent driver kills someone, an injury lawyer can help the family recover damages by filing a wrongful death claim. Those who can file include the spouse and children. If there are no surviving members of the immediate family or the deceased had no spouse and children, parents and siblings of the decedent may file.
You can seek help from an attorney by reviewing your case, who will determine if negligence was involved. In addition to gathering evidence to support your claim, the lawyer will also assist your family in filing a wrongful death lawsuit. We offer free case reviews if you have questions or need more information about your options.
An effective wrongful death claim allows the family to recover the decedent’s end-of-life expenses, wages until retirement age, loss of consortium for the spouse, and other damages. Taking action against the negligent party can provide the family with some measure of peace and prevent financial hardship in the wake of the sudden loss of a loved one.
The following video provides an explanation of the wrongful death claim process from accident lawyer Ed Smith:
