Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Occurs on County Road 32A
Two fatalities occurred as well as major injuries in Woodland in a single-vehicle crash on November 24. The accident happened at about 2:30 a.m. on County Road 32A between County Road 105 and Mace Boulevard. It is believed by officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the Ford in question was speeding west along I-80 nearing Mace Boulevard when it exited the roadway.
Driver and Passenger Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash
The driver of the Ford as well as a passenger in the front seat died due to injuries suffered in the collision. Another passenger in the vehicle suffered major injuries. Although an investigation by the CHP is underway to determine the cause of the accident, it is yet unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. Those who have information about the accident are requested to call (530) 662-4685, which is the Woodland office of the CHP.
Negligence in a Single-Vehicle Crash
Attorneys who handle wrongful death claims are often involved in determining how a collision occurred, including in multiple-fatality accidents. Thus, the grieving family can recover damages for their loss through a compensation claim. Their grief will not be eased by it, of course.
Nevertheless, it can help them go forward after a loss without the financial burden that often follows a family member’s death caused by a single-vehicle crash. A wrongful death claim or personal injury lawsuit can also provide closure and justice to the family members by holding the responsible party accountable.
Accident Compensation for Multiple Fatalities
Wrongful death claims are filed in two ways. It is possible to file a claim through an administrator of a deceased individual’s estate or the immediate family members joining together as a group. A spouse or putative spouse, as well as their children, are considered immediate family members. Those who are the parents or siblings of the deceased are allowed to file if there is no spouse or offspring. A single claim may be filed, however. Damages can be recovered in the following ways:
- Costs associated with funerals/burials
- In addition to the wages the decedent would have earned until retirement age, any benefits or bonuses he or she would have received would have been included as well
- Upon the death of the loved one, the spouse may claim loss of consortium and love and affection
- Loss of guidance and nurturing may be claimed by the children of the deceased
- It is possible to claim a loss of inheritance in some cases
- It may be possible to recover household assistance lost by the decedent, which refers to chores around the home that he or she usually performed such as vehicle care, gardening and others
