Vehicle Plunges Down Embankment on I-80 in Natomas
A vehicle accident occurred in Natomas on April 20 along westbound Interstate 80 that involved injuries. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the collision occurred at the intersection with Truxel Road at around 5:30 in the afternoon and involved three vehicles. When firefighters with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived at the scene, they called for backup from two more medics to attend to the injured. Southbound Truxel Road backed up due to the collision. The accident is under investigation by authorities to find out what happened.
Accident Details in the Three Vehicle Accident
Upon arrival, authorities discovered major damage to a BMW. However, the female driver managed to get herself out of the vehicle without assistance. She was transported by an ambulance to a nearby hospital for her injuries. The second vehicle sustained only minor damage, and no one was injured. A Hyundai Sonata involved in the accident left the roadway and traveled down an embankment. Firefighters helped to extricate the male inside the Sonata and used a stretcher to bring him up the embankment to an ambulance that was waiting. The extent of this patient’s injuries was not reported.
Evidence in a Multiple Vehicle Accident
Providing evidence in a car accident is important for an injured person to place a claim for and collect the compensation they deserve. Over the years, my law office has successfully handled many accidents that involve multiple vehicles. We immediately send out investigators to the crash site to begin collecting the evidence needed to support your claim. Types of evidence they collect include:
- Reviewing the report by the police to ensure its accuracy and talking to the witnesses to the accident.
- Accident reconstruction rebuilds a crash forensically to show reaction times, speed, stopping distance, mechanical problems, and other factors.
- Surveillance cameras from traffic lights and businesses can show the vehicle accident as it occurred.
- Searching for tire marks and evidence of swerving can help tell whether a driver attempted to stop or was distracted, inebriated or otherwise negligent.
- Looking for signs of government negligence such as a malfunctioning traffic light, branches that obscure a sign or potholes and upheavals in the roadway.
Complexities of a Multiple Vehicle Accident
Placing blame in a multiple vehicle accident can be challenging. Despite evidence to the contrary, drivers do not want to admit they were at fault. As described above, accident reconstruction techniques coupled with video footage capturing the crash in real-time are useful in proving what happened. Sometimes, more than one driver is at fault for the crash. When this occurs, your car accident lawyer will be able to use investigative teams to lay blame where it belongs.
Injuries in a Multiple Vehicle Accident
Injuries in a multiple vehicle accident can range from minor to life-threatening. During the accident, especially on a crowded road, vehicles can be caught in traffic without much room to avoid being hit. In addition, each car can be struck several times from different angles. This is worrisome when the impact targets the side of the vehicle. This area, unlike the front and rear, does not provide maximal protection for the occupants. Although manufacturers of newer vehicles are installing side airbags, the majority of cars do not have such devices yet.
