Accident Near the Stockton Boulevard On-Ramp Results in Injury

A multiple-vehicle accident in Sacramento recently caused injuries to at least one person along U.S. 50. The collision happened around 10:49 a.m. along eastbound U.S. 50 just east of the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that it involved a Chevy Equinox, Ford, and Toyota Tacoma pickup, which blocked lanes one and four.

Vehicle Ends Up Stuck on the K-Rail Following Multiple-Vehicle Accident

One of the vehicles ended up high centered on the K-rail, blocking the number four lane. Another of the vehicles involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene. A traffic jam ensued because the two vehicles that remained could not be moved, and tow trucks had to be called. An injury described as minor was reported. Highway Patrol investigators are determining how the multiple-vehicle accident occurred.

Crashes Involving Multiple Vehicles

Accidents that involve multiple vehicles are more complicated when it comes to showing fault. This is one of the reasons having an injury attorney by your side helps you obtain fair compensation. Although one motorist may initiate a collision, it doesn’t mean that others aren’t negligent also. Some of the ways in which a highway multiple-vehicle accident happens include:

  • A driver is speeding and can’t slow down fast enough when traffic is stopped or slowed up ahead.
  • The taillights are out on a vehicle, which means a car coming up from behind can’t tell they are slowing.
  • A driver is tailgating the car up ahead. Even a small change in speed by that driver can result in a rear-end crash that quickly becomes a multiple-vehicle accident.
  • One of the drivers is driving drunk, which causes them to weave in and out of the lanes, speed up and slow down and other dangerous actions. Drunk drivers are a major cause of a multiple-vehicle accident.
  • The driver changes lanes without looking for traffic or without signaling. By crashing into the vehicle in the next lane, it can easily lead to a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • A driver is looking at their phone and texting instead of watching the road ahead. Distracted driving is a leading cause of a multiple-vehicle accident with phone use a major contributor.

Collecting Evidence in a Multiple-Vehicle Accident

Our investigators are experienced in collecting the evidence needed to support a client’s compensation claim. They begin by going directly to the accident site to examine it and take photos. Some of the other areas of examination include:

  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction, which indicates the positioning of the vehicles before, how they progressed and how the collision concluded. This type of evidence often points toward which driver/drivers were at fault.
  • The report filed by the police is checked to ensure its accuracy.
  • Witnesses to the multiple-vehicle accident are interviewed to take their statements and see if any of them captured the collision on their cell phones.
  • Area traffic cameras are examined to see if the accident was captured on video, which provides compelling evidence in the case.

Once all the evidence in the case is gathered, our injury attorneys take over, using it to build a strong claim for compensation for the client.
