U.S. 50 Crash Involving Four Vehicles Injures Minor
An injury occurred in a multiple-vehicle accident on westbound U.S. 50 in Sacramento recently. The accident was reported to have happened shortly after 7:00 p.m. near Stockton Boulevard in the area of the Alhambra Triangle and involved four vehicles. When California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived, they discovered a Toyota SUV blocking the number three and four lanes and a Honda, Toyota Camry, and Ford sedan in the center divider.
One Injury Reported in Multiple-Vehicle Accident
Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess the injuries of a juvenile in one of the vehicles, who was apparently treated at the scene. The CHP is investigating the multiple-vehicle accident to determine who was at fault and how it occurred.
The Complexity of Accidents Involving Multiple Vehicles
Those who have been involved in these types of accidents understand how they can quickly become complicated. The initial crash between two vehicles expands, and cars in other lanes or coming up from behind become involved. It is common for vehicles to be struck more than once from different directions, which may include rear-end, front-end, and side collisions.
Those inside a passenger vehicle or truck may be injured in the initial strike, even though their airbags deploy and seat belts hold them securely. However, once the airbags deploy, they deflate quickly and offer no protection if the vehicle is struck again as they often are. This can increase the number and severity of injuries caused by the multiple-vehicle crash.

How Accidents Occur on Highways
Driver error is the usual cause of a highway accident. Some of the ways in which these occur include:
- Distracted driving: Texting or talking on a cell phone while driving has become a major cause of traffic collisions.
- Speeding: Speeding contributes to many types of motor vehicle crashes. This is because the driver cannot react appropriately in an emergency, and some lose control of their vehicles.
- Fatigued driving: Although this is a lesser contributor to a multiple-vehicle accident, it can be a factor in more collisions at night. Usually, the driver has simply not gotten enough rest. In other accidents, certain medications, shift work, or sleep apnea is the culprit.
- Drunk driving: Still a major cause of a multiple-vehicle accident, the inebriated driver is incapable of driving safely. Reflexes are lessened, judgment clouded, and even eyesight and the ability to track is affected.
Investigating a Multiple-Vehicle Accident
Traffic accidents involving multiple vehicles can be complicated, especially since the cars and trucks involved might be struck multiple times. This is where our investigative team excels. Among their areas of investigation:
- The multiple-vehicle crash scene is carefully documented by performing accident reconstruction. This includes the positioning of the vehicles, damage, road layout, and pavement defects.
- Witnesses are interviewed, which can help corroborate how the collision happened and support your claim.
- Surveillance cameras in the area are sought because the multiple-injury accident may have been captured on video. This type of evidence is widely used both with insurance companies and in court.
- If signs of government negligence are involved, that entity may be held financially liable for injuries, at least in part. Government negligence may include potholes, nonfunctioning lights, poor lighting after dark, and others.
