Four Vehicles In Sacramento Multiple-Vehicle Crash
A multiple-vehicle accident in Sacramento along Highway 50 westbound stalled and backed up traffic for a long distance on July 6. The accident occurred at about 6:00 in the morning east of I-5, and according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a minimum of four vehicles were involved. Traffic was backed up to the Cap City Freeway and the interchange with State Route 99 because of the crash. The accident is being investigated by the CHP to determine what happened to cause the collision.
Further Information on the Multiple-Vehicle Accident
According to the police report, the pileup started around 5:50 a.m. when a Toyota pickup collided with the center divider, ricocheted off and hit other motorists before experiencing a rollover. Three lanes of traffic were blocked by the multiple-vehicle accident. Traffic was once again able to move just after 7:00 a.m. Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were on scene, however, no details were provided about injuries from the collisions.
Danger in Multiple-Vehicle Crashes
A multiple-vehicle accident can cause serious injuries and frequently fatal ones. This is especially true when multiple vehicles are involved because an injured person’s vehicle may sustain multiple hits. While the airbags will hopefully deploy and the seat belt helps prevent injuries initially, more crashes into the vehicle compound the risk of trauma. Sometimes, the airbag or seatbelt is defective, leading to a claim against the manufacturer.
Rollovers and Roof Crush
Rollovers present their own problems in a multiple-vehicle accident. A rollover can be fatal for several reasons. The driver or passengers can be thrown from the vehicle, especially if they are not wearing their seatbelt.
Another issue that causes catastrophic injuries is when the vehicle does not have proper roof strength to support the weight of the vehicle. The weight can cause the passengers to be trapped in the vehicle and exposed to roof crush. A manufacturer has the responsibility to build a vehicle with a roof that can support two or more times the weight of the car. If this is not done, then the manufacturer can be held liable.
It is essential to preserve the vehicle after the accident so experts will be able to see if the proper infrastructure was lacking. If so, a product liability case can be lodged against the manufacturer to reclaim damages for medical bills, lost time from work and pain and suffering.
Investigating an Accident Involving Multiple Vehicles
Investigations into the cause of an accident are important to gather the evidence needed for an injury claim.
Our seasoned and capable investigators go to the crash site right away to gather evidence to support a client’s injury claim. This includes performing accident reconstruction. It shows the initial positioning of the vehicles in a multi-car crash and the order in which the accident occurred. This helps determine fault.
In addition, the investigators look for surveillance cameras in the area and photograph the vehicles and road damage. When the evidence has been compiled, it is up to our lawyers to build a strong case to benefit our client, whether it is used in negotiations with the insurance company or to take the case to court.
