Napa Motorcycle Crash Hospitalizes Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Napa motorcycle accident lawyer. On Monday, January 30, 2017, the driver of a motorcycle was taken to the hospital after crashing on Highway 29 in Napa.

What Happened?

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) told reporters that the motorcyclist had been driving his vehicle north down the highway when the motorcycle somehow collided with another vehicle only a short distance after passing the intersection at Airport Boulevard. The collision caused the motorcyclist to be thrown off of the bike and into a grassy patch of earth on the right shoulder of the highway. The accident reportedly took place at about 7:54 a.m.

Other Vehicle Information

Officials reported that the other vehicle involved in the crash was a grey-colored sedan. The driver of the sedan waited for responding officers to arrive and complied with investigators. The cause of the motorcycle accident remains under investigation. It can take a week or more for investigators from the CHP to prepare a traffic collision report. Sometimes the report will contain errors or be inconclusive as to fault. It is important to contact an experienced motorcycle accident attorney who can investigate the sequence of events leading up to the collision in order to pinpoint liability (fault). Contact an experienced attorney for more information.

Resulting Injuries and Traffic

An ambulance was called to take the driver of the motorcycle to a nearby hospital in the city of Vallejo for treatment. The nature and severity of the motorcyclist’s injuries have not yet been reported by medical officials.

After the incident, debris from the damaged vehicles was spread over the surface of the highway. Crews of workers were called in to clear and clean the section of roadway in order to make it safe again for traveling.

Motorcycle Accidents and Related Injuries

Because those operating a motorcycle are not protected by the exterior of a car, injuries received in accidents have a much higher probability of being serious. Injuries that are sustained in motorcycle accidents can be extremely severe or even life-altering. Those involved in motorcycle accidents may suffer burn injuries, head and brain injuries, bone fractures, or even the loss of a limb.

Motorcycle Safety

Many motorcycle collisions happen when the driver of the other vehicle does not notice the motorcyclist. Motorcycle crashes are often the result of other vehicles not respecting the right-of-way of the motorcyclist. People driving motorcycles sometimes make the assumption that drivers are aware of their presence. However, when viewed head-on, motorcycles usually present the smallest possible image of a vehicle in the road. Because of this, motorcyclists have a higher likelihood of being involved in traffic collisions.

Factors that should be considered include the use of headlights as well as the color of both the rider’s clothing and the motorcycle itself. These factors can decrease or increase other drivers’ ability to see a motorcyclist in time to avoid a collision.
