Oakley Events for October 2017
October is a special month in the United States, as it signals the beginning of the holiday season. From the tricks and treats of Halloween in October, the champagne popping parties for New Years Day in January, and the Easter egg hunting in April, there is a major holiday that defines many of the next months to come. Below I have a short list of some of the family activities that Oakley citizens can look forward to this month.
Hometown Halloween Decorating Contest
Date: Monday, October 16th, 2017
Time: 5:00 p.m.
Location: Your house (if it falls within the city of Oakley, CA)
Admission: Free
Do you love the spooky spirit of Halloween? If so, what better way to prove it by putting all of your ghoulish energy into house decoration? All residents of Oakley are welcome to participate in this annual Halloween house contest. You can cover your house with spider webs, skeletons, tombstones, or anything else that you believe captures the Halloween spirit. The rules and restrictions are as follows: No decorations installed by professional services. The exterior front yard and roof are the only areas that will be judged. Urban Jazz Dance
Date: Thursdays, from October 19th – December 7th
Time: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Location: 1250 O’Hara Ave, Oakley, CA 94561
Admission: $55 for Oakley residents, $65 for non-residents
Held by the Oakley Recreation Division, This energetic and creative class creates self-confidence while kids from the ages of 7-12 years old practice a plethora of dance styles such as modern, lyrical, ballet. Students will be shown various music genres including Blues, Jazz, Funk, Pop, and more. Over time, students should develop technique, personal style, physical strength, and artistic creativity. This eight week long course will not be meeting on November 2nd or November 23rd. Pre-registration is a requirement, so don’t wait to enroll your children in this innovative dance course! Harvest Festival
Date: Saturday, October 21st, 2017
Time: 12:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Location: 3231 Main Street, Oakley, CA 94561
Admission: Free
I am excited to announce that the Civic Center Plaza will be holding Oakley’s annual Harvest Festival on Main Street this year. Admission, as well as parking, are completely free. This family friendly event will include an abundance of vendors on site, a pie-eating contest funded by Black Bear Diner, a pumpkin decorating contest, a costume parade, and another costume parade for canines! This community event is the perfect way to start off the holiday season, complete with a designated children’s area that will consist of bounce houses and plenty of arts and crafts.
