One Killed During Laytonville Area Crash
One person was seriously hurt during a Laytonville area crash that occurred on Friday, November 13, 2020. The incident reportedly involved two passenger vehicles, including a small sedan and pickup truck, and took place on Highway 101 during the afternoon. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is presently withholding the identity of the decedent until their family has received proper notification. The collision remains under investigation.
Crash Information
According to Rick Fowler of the Garberville California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash happened at around 1:10 p.m. a few miles north of Laytonville on Highway 101, close to mile marker 76. While the circumstances that preceded the crash have not been reported, a large, blue Ford pickup truck crashed into the broadside of a small, gold sedan. Pictures of the crash scene show that the pickup nearly tore the smaller vehicle in half.
Response
Directly after police were contacted regarding the crash, dispatchers rushed a response team to the site. When they arrived, officials discovered that one person inside of the sedan had been critically injured. Tragically, this individual was pronounced deceased on-site. Whether or not any other individuals were injured as a result of the incident has not yet been reported.
Investigation
The highway was reduced to a single one-way controlled lane while police and other emergency officials conducted accident response. Traffic remained impeded while officers conducted preliminary investigations of evidence at the accident scene. However, police have not yet stated what they believe could have caused this crash. Weather conditions were reportedly wet and rainy at the time of the incident.
Often, crashes like this one happen due to two or more factors, many of which are not driver-related like defective auto products or hazardous roads. Furthermore, investigations of fatal accidents can be difficult. When police aren’t able to interview drivers about what occurred, they may overlook important aspects of the collision.
For these reasons, it’s important to work with a wrongful death attorney who has experience handling private collision investigations. By doing so, you will make sure that there is a professional prioritizing your family’s right to compensation during accident investigations.
