One Person Killed in Crash Near Redcrest
On Monday, January 4, 2021, one person suffered fatal injuries after being involved in a crash near Redcrest. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident occurred in the evening and involved only one passenger vehicle. The name of the decedent has not yet been reported by officials of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, but he has been identified as a 63-year-old man from Redway. The incident remains under investigation at this time.
Crash Information
According to police, the incident happened at around 5:17 p.m. on Highway 101, just south of Redcrest. The decedent was driving a blue 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck while heading south on the highway. For unknown reasons, the Silverado drifted to the western edge of the road and eventually traveled off-road.
As the vehicle left the road, it traveled up a steep embankment before crashing head-on into a tree. After striking the tree, the vehicle continued over the embankment and down the other side. Eventually, the truck came to a stop on its wheels, partially submerged in a nearby creek.
Response to Crash Near Redcrest
The collision was reported to CHP, and dispatchers immediately rushed a response team to the site. When they reached the area, emergency officials found the vehicle and determined that the driver had sustained major injuries. Sadly, the man was declared deceased at the location. No other individuals were involved in the accident.
Investigation
As CHP works to investigate this accident, they have stated that the highway was wet at the time of the crash due to recent rain. Additionally, officers indicated that the driver had been properly wearing his seatbelt. At this time, no further accident factors have been reported.
Often, accidents that involve only one car happen due to a number of factors. These factors can include things like driving a pickup truck with malfunctioning parts and/or using roads with dangerously defective pavement or other hazardous issues. In these cases, parties not directly involved with the collision may be considered financially responsible.
Private Investigations are Important
Police officers investigating fatal accidents can have a hard time fully understanding what caused the crash. In many cases, they overlook evidence that could have been a critical part of a wrongful death case, leaving family members of the decedent unable to claim the payments that they deserve.
To prevent this oversight, it’s important to have a wrongful death lawyer investigate your accident privately. An experienced lawyer will be able to use their resources to make sure the incident is investigated with your family as a priority.
