Accident at Hazel and Central Avenues Caused by Negligent Driver

An intersection accident resulting in a rollover occurred in Orangevale on October 9, caused by a red-light runner. The accident was reported as occurring around 8:43 in the morning at the intersection of Hazel and Central avenues. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the collision happened when the driver of a black Mercedes 4-door sedan ran a red light.

Intersection Accident Results in Vehicle Rollover

After passing through the light without stopping, the Mercedes crashed into a gray Dodge Journey, causing the vehicle to overturn in the street crossing. The Dodge was heavily damaged in the intersection accident and had to be removed by a tow truck. The number and extent of injuries in the crash were not reported.

Causes of Intersection Accidents

Intersections are where around 40 percent of all accidents occur. Because vehicles are converging from different directions and the area is complicated by the presence of bicycle riders and pedestrians, it is a prime location for an accident. An intersection accident can have several causes, most of which are because of driver error, including:

  • Running a red light or through a stop sign is a major cause of an intersection accident.
  • Speeding can contribute to an intersection accident because the driver does not have time to slow down if the light changes.
  • Making a risky right turn without a clear view of traffic can result in a collision.
  • Ignoring another motorist’s right of way can cause an intersection accident.
  • Drivers who attempt a left turn in front of oncoming traffic can misjudge the distance, leading to an accident.

Rollovers in an Intersection Accident

Rollovers often occur to motorists driving a light truck, van, or SUV but can happen in any vehicle if the impact is strong enough. T-bone collisions frequently result in a rollover from the force of the impact. In some cases, the vehicle ends up on its roof. This can lead to roof crush when the manufacturer has not provided enough support to keep the top of the vehicle from caving in.

Since manufacturers are held to standards with regard to roof strength, a product liability claim may be placed if this happens and injuries occur. For this reason, it is important to retain any vehicle where a roof crush has happened.

Accident Investigations

People injured by negligence must have proof to claim compensation for their injuries. Over my years as an injury lawyer, I’ve successfully handled many claims. We send our investigators to the intersection accident site to collect the evidence to support your claim. Some of the things they do include:

  • The police report is reviewed to ensure accuracy and witness statements are taken.
  • Traffic camera footage is checked to see if the intersection accident was captured.
  • Forensic reconstruction of the accident is performed, which can indicate how the incident occurred and can point toward negligence.
  • The intersection and surrounding area themselves are checked to look for signs of government negligence such as poorly timed lights, foliage that has obscured corners and others.

Our experienced lawyers take over once the investigation is complete, and all the evidence has been gathered. They use all of this information to construct a strong case that supports our client’s compensation claim. It can be used either to present a case in civil court or to negotiate with the insurance company on behalf of our client.
