Pedestrian Crash Fatality on Pine Street
A fatality was reported after a car vs. pedestrian crash on Pine Street in the Walnut Creek area on Saturday, July 30, 2022. The incident took place around 1:50 a.m. at Pine Street and North Main Street, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.

A preliminary report revealed that two individuals were walking on the sidewalk near the intersection when they were allegedly struck by a pickup truck. The vehicle also crashed into a cement pillar, according to Walnut Creek PD. One pedestrian was treated at an area hospital for serious injuries. Sadly, the other pedestrian was declared deceased at the crash site.
Officials have recently identified the decedent as 27-year-old Maricarmen Leon of Discovery Bay. The injured pedestrian was identified as Ms. Leon’s friend. A GoFundMe page has been set up on behalf of the Leon family to help cover final resting expenses.
The pickup truck driver, a 28-year-old woman from Concord, was arrested on gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. She was later booked at Martinez Detention Facility. The case has been recommended to the District Attorney for further review. Additional information on the fatal pedestrian accident in Walnut Creek has not yet been released due to an ongoing investigation.
