Pedestrian Fatality in Rio Linda

An August 5 collision in Rio Linda ended in a pedestrian fatality in an early morning accident. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident happened at Marysville and Elkhorn Boulevards at about 5:00 in the morning when three people were walking along Elkhorn Boulevard. One of the pedestrians was struck by a vehicle while the remaining two women were uninjured. The decedent was identified by the office of the Sacramento County Coroner as Theresa Trower, age 27. The driver stayed at the accident site and cooperated with investigators. The other two women were also questioned. There were no arrests made in the incident. Elkhorn Boulevard remained closed because of the accident investigation for about an hour and a half. I want to extend my prayers and sympathy to the loved ones and friends of the deceased.

Turning to an Injury Lawyer

When a family loses a loved one in a pedestrian fatality, they face unremitting grief and loneliness. If the death was due to a reckless or negligent act, feelings of grief are compounded by anger and emotional trauma. The suddenness robs the family of a chance to say goodbye. In addition, the family also faces financial worries such as being unable to pay monthly bills and the cost of end-of-life expenses. Many of our clients have chosen to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the reckless party. The first step we take is sending our team of investigators to the site of the pedestrian fatality to determine fault. This can range from driver error to aggressive driving. We also review the police reports for accuracy and obtain traffic or business establishment videos that may have captured the accident digitally. Once this is established, we build a strong case to obtain the compensation the family needs. It is vital that we begin as soon as possible after the accident so that evidence is not lost or covered up.

Effects of Grief

Grief is different for everyone. There are common ways it is expressed, such as:

  • Depression
  • Guilt
  • Anger
  • Denial
  • Insomnia
  • Numbness
  • Sense of loss
  • Withdrawal
  • Emotional turmoil

Grief Spasms

Grief spasms are episodes where a specific trigger sparks feelings of overwhelming grief. This can be a place, a song, or an event such as a wedding. The holidays are other examples of events that can cause a person to endure a grief spasm.

How to Cope With Loss

There are ways a person can cope with the loss of a loved one. Each person faces grief differently. Some of the steps are:

  • Acknowledge your grief: Realize from the outset that it is normal to grieve, feel anger, and loneliness after a loved one dies.
  • Take time for yourself: Some people need time off work to grieve. Others do not. Choose what is right for you. It is important no matter what you choose to get an adequate amount of sleep and eat healthily.
  • Discuss your loved one and their death: Talking about your loved one and how they died may be an excellent way to come to terms with their death. Friends and family understand this and will be there when you need to talk.
  • Help other family members: Remember, as much as one person grieves, there is someone who is feeling the same emotion. Helping them get through this difficult time helps you too.
  • Remember the good times: Try to remember the good times. Not every memory of a loved one needs to center on their demise. Concentrating on the good days is one way to help yourself through this daunting period.
