Hit-and-Run Driver on El Camino Avenue Involved in Pedestrian Fatality
A pedestrian fatality occurred in Sacramento on May 15 after the walker was hit by a hit-and-run driver. The report by the Sacramento Police Department stated that officers were sent to investigate a report of an accident at El Camino Avenue and Clay Street at about 10:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman lying in the road who had suffered critical injuries.
Investigation Continues Into Pedestrian Fatality Accident
During the investigation, it was determined that a vehicle had struck the woman and then fled from the accident scene. The woman who was struck was declared dead later. The identity of the female pedestrian will not be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office until the family has been notified. Detectives with the police department are conducting a search for the fleeing driver.
The Loss of a Loved One
It is always difficult to lose a family member, but much worse when it never had to happen. A pedestrian fatality is especially hard on family members as they wonder what they could have done to prevent it. The grief, confusion, and other emotions can be overwhelming. Most families don’t think about filing a wrongful death lawsuit until sometime later when they realize how they are going to be financially impacted by the loss.
Funeral and burial expenses, loss of income if the decedent was a breadwinner and other losses can cause financial stress at a time when the family is consumed with grief. By filing a wrongful death lawsuit, the family may be able to continue their mourning in peace while knowing the negligent party is being held financially accountable.
Conducting a Search for a Hit-and-Run Driver
By collecting evidence, it is possible to locate a hit-and-run driver in many cases, and my law office has the experience and wherewithal to do so. We’re honored to answer your questions, tell you what options are available to you, and tell you whether or not you can place a claim. Our investigators go to the site of the accident right away to search for evidence, including:
- Our investigators examine the area where the pedestrian fatality occurred and look for tell-tale signs of the hit-and-run driver. These can include paint smears and pieces of metal that dropped from the vehicle, which can be matched to the make and model.
- The area surveillance cameras are examined to see if the fleeing driver was captured on video.
- The investigators talk to the witnesses to see if any of them can describe the vehicle or driver. In some cases, a witness filmed the accident on their cell phone or can remember at least part of the license plate number.
- The police report is examined for errors.
- Accident reconstruction is performed to determine the location of the vehicle relative to the pedestrian fatality accident site.
When the driver is located, our injury attorneys can use the evidence collected to place a wrongful death claim for the family to recover damages.
