Fleeing Driver Accident at Chiles Road Intersection Causes Pedestrian Injury
A pedestrian injury accident occurred on April 16 after the individual was struck by a hit-and-run driver east of Davis. The accident happened around 8:47 p.m. along Chiles Road at its intersection with County Road 105D. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the vehicle that fled the scene appeared to be a late 90s or 2000s red Honda SUV and that the taillight was knocked out. The extent of injuries to the pedestrian was not reported. An investigation is underway to locate the driver and determine how the collision occurred.
Severity of Injuries to a Pedestrian in a Motor Vehicle Accident
Pedestrian accidents often result in serious and life-threatening injuries due to the lack of protection a pedestrian has from an approaching car or other motor vehicle. Depending on the speed of the car and the type of collision, pedestrians can suffer broken bones, head and neck injuries, spinal cord damage, amputations, permanent disability, and even death. In the most serious cases, pedestrians may require long-term or lifelong medical care to manage their injuries.
Seeking Legal Advice After a Pedestrian Injury Accident
Because of the severe consequences that can result from a pedestrian accident, it is essential to seek legal advice as soon as possible after an accident occurs. An experienced attorney can help you understand your rights and options and take the necessary steps to make sure you are financially compensated for your losses.
Regardless of the circumstances of a pedestrian accident, always contact an attorney specializing in this type of case. They have the expertise and resources to investigate the accident carefully and build an effective legal strategy on your behalf. With the help of a qualified lawyer, you can seek compensation such as the following:
- Medical expenses associated with your accident can be recovered, such as hospitalization, testing, surgeries, medications and rehabilitation, including out-of-pocket costs.
- Lost wages are recoverable if you were not paid at your employment after your injury. Some people take vacation or sick leave, which is also recoverable. Tax records and others can be used to establish your income in cases where the individual is self-employed.
- Permanent disability or having to take a lower-paying job due to your injury can be compensated. Those who are permanently disabled may recover their wages as well as pension, insurance and other benefits until retirement age. Injured parties who have to take a lower-paying job can recover the salary difference from their previous positions.
- Pain and suffering include both the physical aspects and compensation for the emotional and psychological problems you faced due to the accident and resulting injuries. In many cases, the injured party develops post-traumatic stress disorder, which affects their everyday life. If professional treatment is sought, the cost is recoverable.
Don’t hesitate to get the legal help you need after a pedestrian accident – it could make all the difference in your case.
