Rollover Accident Reported on S.R. 70
A single-vehicle rollover accident at Plumas Lake on June 8 resulted in major injuries. The collision happened along eastbound State Route 70 just north of the Feather River Boulevard off-ramp around 8:30 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the vehicle was on its roof off to the right-hand side, about 75 to 100 feet off the roadway.
Extricated Driver Suffers Major Injuries in Single-Vehicle Rollover
The driver was still in the vehicle and had to be extricated. It was determined the driver had suffered major injuries in the crash. The incident is under investigation by the CHP traffic collision unit to determine what happened to cause the rollover accident.
Injuries Caused by Rollovers
In rollover accidents, there is a high potential for serious injuries. If someone is not wearing a seatbelt or other restraint when the vehicle rolls over, they are more likely to sustain these injuries. In addition, when a vehicle rolls over, flying debris can cause injuries to the occupants. It is possible for car occupants to suffer head injuries or be crushed by parts of the car if they are not protected by airbags and seat belts.

The survivability space for those inside is also reduced by roof crush.
Fires, fuel spills and other hazardous conditions can result from rollover crashes, causing further injuries or death. It is crucial to retain the vehicle in case of a roof crush so that engineers can examine it. Rollover accidents can also be caused or contributed to by roadway negligence. An example of negligence would be potholes, malfunctioning traffic lights, poor overhead lighting, and overgrown foliage that blocks a driver’s view.
