Westbound US 50 Accident Injures One in Two-Vehicle Crash
An injury occurred following a rear-end accident along westbound US 50 on September 19. The accident involved a Suzuki and Honda Accord, which crashed about 5:24 in the afternoon just east of the connector with State Route 51 northbound. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to an accident report and discovered that one vehicle sustained major rear-end damage and had to be towed from the scene.
One Injury Reported in Sacramento Rear-End Accident
One person involved in the rear-end accident was transported by first responders with the Sacramento Fire Department to UC Davis Medical Center for additional evaluation and treatment. The accident is being investigated to determine how it occurred and to assign fault.
Dangers of a Rear-End Accident
These types of collisions are common and can occur anywhere from someone backing out of space at a parking lot or while waiting at a traffic intersection to a sudden highway crash. - Ignoring traffic laws: Drivers who are speeding, tailgating, cutting in and out of traffic, and other negligent behaviors can cause a collision.
- Weather conditions: If the pavement is wet or it is raining, snowing, or icy out, motorists are expected to adjust their driving speed to avoid accidents. In addition, some vehicles simply don’t handle well on wet pavement and may fishtail or be challenging to stop.
- A defect in the vehicle: A defect in the brakes, accelerator, or steering column can end up causing a rear-end accident. In these cases, the manufacturer and others may be held responsible through a product liability lawsuit.
- Losing control of the vehicle: Occasionally, a driver will slip up and press on the accelerator instead of the brake. Usually, this type of error happens with older people, but it can occur with anyone. Mistake or not, they are still liable if an injury occurs from the resulting accident.
