Interstate 80 Accident Cause Unknown

A traffic fatality was reported in Roseville when an engineer with Sacramento Metro Fire went off the road on his way to work. The accident, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Auburn unit, happened along Interstate 80 around 7:00 a.m. The collision occurred as the resident of Grass Valley, 38-year-old Kyle Rutherford, was going west on I-80 toward the exit for Atlantic Street when, for unknown reasons, his Toyota Corolla drifted into the concrete barrier in the median from the number one lane.

Witnesses Sought in Interstate 80 Traffic Fatality Accident

CHP officers, upon arrival at the scene, discovered Rutherford unresponsive and extricated him from the vehicle. First responders transported the patient to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, however, he was unfortunately declared dead upon arrival. No additional people were in the vehicle at the time, and no other vehicles were involved. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, and investigators with the CHP are asking any witnesses to the collision to phone them at (916) 663-3344.

Further Information About the Family

Officials with Metro Fire released a statement after the tragic news, saying that Kyle began working for the department on March 9, 2015, and in 2018 had been promoted to engineer. Rutherford’s father was a fire engineer also and is now retired as a member of the Roseville Fire Department. Rutherford leaves behind a wife, Sheena, two daughters, Lillian and Leana, two sons, Grady and James, a sister, Shaina, and Ed and Larelle Rutherford, his parents.

Losing a Loved One Unexpectedly

It is difficult to explain the grief a family feels after the unexpected loss of a loved one. That grief is compounded by disbelief and confusion. The love and support ordinarily provided by the deceased is suddenly gone. At this time, families rarely worry about how they will continue on emotionally and financially.

Filing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Since 1982, our law firm has helped many families during this difficult period in their lives. We review their case to determine how it happened and if negligence by an outside entity was involved. If that is the case, a wrongful death lawsuit will be able to take the strain of financial worry off them.

What Is a Wrongful Death Lawsuit?

A wrongful death lawsuit is a way to recover the damages inflicted by a negligent party that led to the death of an individual. It is filed by surviving family members such as:

  • The surviving spouse or putative spouse
  • Children of the deceased
  • Stepchildren of the decedent
  • Minors living in the household for more than 180 days who were supported by the decedent
  • Parents of the decedent if they were also supported by the deceased by at least 50 percent

Investigating a Traffic Fatality

Our law firm dispatches investigators to the accident site as soon as possible. They are able to look for evidence of liability from the following parties:

  • A manufacturer that installed faulty brakes, tires, or steering in the vehicle
  • A government agency that failed to maintain roadways properly
  • A hit-and-run driver who left the scene of the accident
  • Video surveillance of the accident and police reports
