Sacramento I-80 Truck Accident Kills Lawndale Resident
I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento wrongful death lawyer. A West Sacramento truck accident along eastbound I-80 claimed the life of a young woman on June 2. The California Highway Patrol in Woodland is conducting an investigation into the cause for the accident. However, it was reported that the neither drugs nor alcohol seem to have been a factor.
Accident Details
The crash occurred as a woman from Lawndale, 24, driving a Toyota Camry, tried to pass a Dodge Dakota pulling a utility trailer. Another driver, a young woman driving a Nissan Altima, aged 18, was in the lane behind the Dodge truck. When the woman from Lawndale attempted to pass the two vehicles, the truck began having problems with its tire on the front right, which began to deflate. As a result, the truck moved into the other lane. At this point, it collided with the Toyota, which hit a guardrail off the highway, somewhere in the vicinity of Reed Avenue. When the vehicle hit the guardrail, it overturned. The driver of the Nissan managed to avoid crashing into either vehicle but also crashed into a guardrail.
Accident Injuries
The Lawndale woman died as a result of the injuries she suffered in the crash. The drivers of the other two vehicles involved in the crash were uninjured.

In 2015, there were 3,176 deaths attributed to motor vehicles in California, the second highest number behind the state of Texas. According to the Insurance Information Institute, 20- to 24-year-olds represented the largest age group in motor vehicle deaths. As in the above accident, where the driver’s vehicle swerved into another lane because of a problem with a tire, the driver of that vehicle may be held responsible for the victim’s death. In some instances, the manufacturer, seller or installer may be held liable.
