Southbound Lanes of Southport Parkway Shut Due to Big Rig Rollover
A West Sacramento road was shut down for several hours recently because of a big rig rollover accident that shut down the southbound lanes of Southport Parkway. The West Sacramento Police Department reported that the accident happened along the parkway close to Lake Washington around 9:15 in the morning. Both the truck and the trailer were flipped entirely over and lying on their roofs. Local police are conducting an investigation into the accident to determine how it occurred. It was not reported whether drug or alcohol consumption contributed to the accident. During the investigation and cleanup of the accident, local police asked motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
Dangers of a Big Rig Rollover
Rollovers are always dangerous, but even more so when they involve a big rig. A tractor-trailer when it rolls can impact other motorists who are driving in an adjacent lane or following behind. Most collisions occur suddenly, which gives other motorists little to no time to react to avoid a crash. Since a big rig collision is much different than other vehicular accidents, having an experienced personal injury lawyer by your side is essential for you to obtain the compensation you deserve.
Why Are Truck Accidents Different?
Big rigs are governed by strict state and federal regulations meant to improve safety on the roadways because accidents with these large vehicles are so dangerous. In addition, it makes a difference whether the driver is an owner/ operator or works for a company. If a company is involved, the injured person may be able to place a claim against both the driver and business that employs them. A personal injury lawyer knows what areas need to be checked to prove negligence to support your claim.
How a Personal Injury Lawyer Can Help
Substantial evidence is key in obtaining compensation through a personal injury claim, and a seasoned lawyer can help. We send our investigators to the accident scene right away to look for evidence. They begin by looking over the police report for mistakes and talking to the witnesses. In a big rig rollover accident, they check the driver’s logbook and background to check for citations and a record of negligence. The investigators check to see if the driver was speeding, driving distracted, or committed another infraction. They look over the truck and its maintenance records to see if worn brakes or bad tires caused the crash. They check company records to ensure that they have no infractions, don’t push drivers beyond their limits, and don’t falsify records.
Accident reconstruction is an integral part of establishing a claim. It shows how the vehicles were positioned initially and how the big rig rollover occurred. Investigators also look for traffic and business surveillance cameras that could have videotaped the accident. Our lawyers go to work once the evidence is gathered to build a case in our client’s favor. It can be used negotiating on our client’s behalf with the insurance company or in building a strong case for court.
