Hit-And-Run Accident on Fruitridge Road in Sacramento Causes Eye Injury

A hit-and-run collision on July 19 in Sacramento left one man with an eye injury following an earlier altercation. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the accident happened in front of Papa Murphy’s on Fruitridge Road and Stockton Boulevard at about 9:15 in the morning. Officers with the Sacramento Police Department were at the accident scene along with emergency responders with Sac Fire.

Earlier Disturbance May Have Led to Accident

It was reported by police that the drivers of the two vehicles may have been involved in an earlier disturbance, and the assault was intentional. The injured man was examined at the scene by rescuers. It is unknown whether he was transported to a hospital.

Hit-and-Run Collision Being Investigated

Police are investigating the incident, which was categorized as a hit-and-run collision with injuries. A hit-and-run with damage to an object is a misdemeanor in California. However, when injuries are the result, the driver can either be charged with a misdemeanor, or it may be increased to a felony.

Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver

Asking advice from a lawyer who is experienced in locating the driver following a hit-and-run collision is a good idea, especially when someone is facing increasing medical bills and lost wages. I’ve successfully handled many of these cases over the years and offer a free consultation in which I review your case and tell you what options are available to you. In many cases, insurance will cover your costs.

Using Uninsured/Underinsured Insurance Coverage Following an Accident

Unfortunately, there are many Californians who either don’t have enough car insurance or have none at all. This is where the benefits of uninsured/underinsured coverage comes in. If a holder of one of these add-on policies becomes injured, their uninsured coverage will kick in to pay the cost of their medical expenses and lost wages.

If the injured person does not carry uninsured coverage, there is another option. If a family member in the household carries this type of insurance, theirs can be used. It does not increase the premium.

Evidence Is Collected to Support a Hit and Run Collision

Strong evidence is needed to support a compensation claim following a personal injury. I’ve successfully resolved many cases over my years working as a lawyer. We begin by sending our investigators to the accident site where they do the following:

  • The investigators review the police report for inaccuracies and speak to witnesses.
  • They look for physical evidence such as skid marks.
  • Investigators determine the exact location of the hit and run collision to see if it was inside the intersection, at the entrance, etc.
  • Road conditions are checked, such as poor lighting or non-functioning traffic signals that might have caused the accident. The government entity in charge of maintenance may be liable in these cases.
  • Signs of human error that might have caused the accident are looked for, such as distracted driving, running a red light, or speeding.
  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction to determine the location of the vehicles before and up to the hit-and-run collision.
  • Digital evidence is sought, such as surveillance cameras, vehicle systems, and cell phones.

Our experienced lawyers use the gathered evidence to construct a strong case for compensation for our client. In some instances, it is used to handle negotiations on the client’s behalf with the insurance company. If the insurance company refuses to pay what is fair, it can be used in civil court.
