Accident on I-80 Occurs Between Two Drivers
A hit-and-run with injuries that included an altercation between the drivers happened in Sacramento on April 3. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that they arrived at El Centro Road and West El Camino Avenue by the Chevron Station around 6:48 p.m. to discover that the accident had occurred between a Toyota Tundra pickup and an SUV, which fled the accident scene.
Injury Occurs to One Driver Following Two-Vehicle Hit-and-Run
According to a witness to the events near the gas station, before the suspect vehicle left, the driver of the SUV exited their vehicle and struck the motorist in the Toyota pickup. Medics with the Sacramento Fire Department were called to the scene to assess injuries to that driver, although it is unknown whether they occurred during the altercation or as a result of the collision.
Authorities Seek Hit-and-Run Driver Following Highway Accident
According to the driver of the pickup, his vehicle had been struck by the SUV along westbound 80 near Truxel Road. There was a witness to the accident present at the time who stated the drivers got into a fight following the collision. The CHP is investigating to determine what happened and to locate the hit-and-run driver. No additional information was reported on injuries to the pickup driver.
Hit-and-Run Accidents
Despite law enforcement crackdowns on hit-and-run drivers, motorists continue to flee the scene. There are many reasons for the recent escalation in hit-and-run crashes, but the most common are:
- A motorist lacks a driver’s license and would rather flee than get caught without it
- The driver does not have insurance on their vehicle
- The vehicle is stolen
- The driver has warrants against him/her and does not want the police to retain them
- The driver is inebriated and does not want to take a Breathalyzer test
- The motorist panics and flees
- The driver either used drugs or has drugs in their vehicle
How Our Firm Deals With a Hit-and-Run
Over the years, we have dealt with many fleeing driver accidents. We understand the discomfort our clients feel when the negligent driver cannot be found. That is why we put procedural plans into action.
Our investigators inspect the scene for clues as to the identity of the hit-and-run driver. They look for paint smears on the client’s vehicle that could be instrumental in identifying the fleeing car or truck. Many times, a manufacturer uses a particular paint on certain models, so this piece of evidence is useful.
We also speak to witnesses who saw the crash occur. On numerous occasions, someone at the crash site will recall the license plate number, however, even a portion of it can be traced.
Paying for Damages When the Driver Flees
In many cases, the fleeing driver is located. However, sometimes they cannot be located. Here, it is possible for the injured party to use their own uninsured/underinsured insurance.
This policy is offered to all Californians since there are numerous motorists in the state that fail to carry insurance. It is not mandatory to carry uninsured/underinsured insurance. In the event that the injured party does not have this add-on coverage, but someone in the family does, it can still be used.
