Driver Remains at the Scene of Major Injury Bicycle Collision
The driver who struck the bicyclist remained at the scene, and impaired driving does not appear to factor into the cause of the crash. Traffic heading southbound on Natomas Boulevard was shut down between Del Paso Road and North Park Drive as the scene was cleared and an investigation was conducted.
Filing a Claim for Personal Injury Compensation
Injury to a bicycle rider or others caused by a negligent or intentional action is considered a personal injury. Those whose careless driving causes injuries to cyclists may be liable for damages caused by the collision. As part of this, the injured party will be responsible for medical expenses, lost wages due to their incapacity to work and pain and suffering.
When a Sacramento bicycle collides with a motor vehicle, the injuries can be especially devastating. From traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord damage, fractures, neck and back trauma, and lacerations to abrasions, there is a wide range of trauma that can result from a major injury bicycle collision. As a result, the injured bicyclist may face extensive medical bills as well as lost wages because they cannot work while being treated or recovering from their trauma.
A California Personal Injury Claim’s Statute of Limitations
An individual has a limited period of time to bring a personal injury claim in California. In most cases, a claim must be filed within two years of the injury. If the injury is to a minor, either they can wait until they turn 18, or their parents or guardians can file a claim on their behalf.
