Sacramento Motorcycle Accident Injures Rider
On August 21 in Sacramento, a hit and run happened along State Route 51 southbound, which injured a motorcycle rider. The accident was reported at 2:33 in the afternoon by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). According to the police report, the collision occurred between the motorcycle rider and two other vehicles, including a gray pickup truck, at the on-ramp for eastbound El Camino Avenue. The third vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene without stopping. An ambulance was called for reported injuries to the motorcycle rider in the incident, who was transported to a nearby hospital. In accidents that result in injuries, the motorist who left the scene is often charged with felony hit and run.
What an Attorney Can Do For You
After an accident, you may need the insight and help an experienced lawyer can provide. Our firm begins by sending our investigative team to the accident site. It is important to learn how the motorcycle accident occurred and who was at fault. Our investigators scour the area for evidence, interview witnesses, and obtain videos of the accident from traffic cameras and storefront businesses. If a hit and run is involved, we use the techniques we have developed to assist in apprehending the driver. Once this evidence is garnered, we run it through a simulation that allows us to determine fault. Our legal teams picks it up from there. We build a strong case against the defendant to use in negotiations with the insurer or present in civil court.
Why Do Entrance Ramp Accidents Happen?
Many highway accidents happen when motorists use entrance and exit ramps. Fifty percent of all ramp accidents occur when the motorist is leaving the highway and entering an off-ramp. Another 31 percent occur when the driver is entering the freeway. The remainder happens on access roads or on-ramps that connect two highways. One of the major reasons for an accident is that the driver is approaching the ramp at an unsafe speed, leading to a deadly motorcycle accident crash. In other cases, the ramp is poorly designed, leading to car and motorcycle crashes. In this case, government agencies or contractors may be held responsible for the accident.
Injuries in a Ramp Motorcycle Accident
Injuries in a motorcycle accident can range from minor to life-threatening or fatal. Because of this, it is important that an injured party be medically evaluated as soon as possible. Some of the most common injuries are:
- Fractures: Due to the lack of protection a motorcyclist has, broken bones make up a large portion of the injuries. Riders are often thrown to the ground, resulting in leg, foot, arm and hip fractures.
- Head injuries: One of the most devastating and common injuries are to the head. These include skull fractures and traumatic brain injuries. Wearing a helmet is effective in preventing these injuries.
- Neck Injury: This injury can be caused by fractures of the clavicle or damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the neck. Trauma to the spinal cord can also result.
- Road rash: Depending on the type of garments the rider wears, road rash can be painful and dangerous. Infection of the skin surface can be treated with antibiotics.
