Motorcycle Rider Injured on West Side Freeway

A motorcyclist’s major injury was reported in Sacramento on the West Side Freeway on March 16. The crash happened around 5:52 a.m. along northbound I-5 just north of the eastbound Florin Road on-ramp. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers reported the motorcycle was down on the roadway, blocking two lanes.

Sigalert Issued for Motorcycle Major Injury Collision

The motorcycle rider managed to get over to the right-hand side of the roadway, away from traffic. A Sigalert was issued for I-5 northbound just north of Florin Road, where lanes were blocked due to the collision. No estimated time of reopening was provided, however, detours were suggested.

Roadway Blocked for About Half an Hour Due to Collision

The Sigalert was canceled around 6:23 a.m. The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital with a major injury. No additional information was provided. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway by the CHP.

Motorcycle Riders Are Sometimes Treated Unfairly

When a motorcycle rider is involved in a collision with a motor vehicle, severe injuries can result. It is possible that a rider may feel under pressure to accept a low settlement by the insurance company because of lost income and rising medical bills. If the rider settles their claim too early, he or she may still be liable for those additional medical costs and be unable to work.

Countering Insurance Company Arguments Following a Motorcycle Collision

Insurance companies use tricks in order to avoid paying a fair settlement. We know all of these tricks. A motorcyclist who is injured in an accident can rely on our firm to counter these arguments and obtain fair compensation to cover all of their medical expenses, lost wages and to reimburse them for their pain and suffering.

My firm has handled such a large number of motorcycle claims that I published a book on Amazon titled The California Motorcycle Accident Handbook. It answers questions that riders frequently ask after an accident, and it is available online for free.

What Are the Most Common Causes of Motorcycle and Automobile Collisions?

Although most riders are afraid of hitting a motor vehicle since they know it can cause a major injury, accidents can sometimes be unavoidable. Drivers are often negligent and cause motorcycle accidents due to the following reasons:

  • Speeding is a major cause of motorcycle accidents because the motorist can’t stop in time to avoid an accident.
  • When reckless drivers tailgate or stop short in front of motorcycle riders, they can throw them from their bikes.
  • A distracted driver who texts, changes radio stations or does anything else rather than concentrating on the road and traffic can cause a motorcycle major injury.
  • Drunk drivers are extremely risky to motorcyclists. It is difficult for motorcycle riders to avoid a collision when drunk drivers weave in and out of lanes while speeding and slowing down.
  • Those who lane-split can suffer a serious injury if a motorist suddenly switches lanes.
  • A motorcycle is most likely to collide with a motor vehicle when it turns in front of it. A driver might also turn left out of a parking lot and hit a rider who is crossing the street legally. Motorists sometimes feel compelled to beat motorcyclists across the street. In others, they have misjudged the rider’s speed and distance.
