Sacramento Multi-vehicle Ramp Crash Details

Ramp Accidents
A multi-vehicle ramp crash often happens either on entrance and exit ramps or when the vehicles are merging into traffic. On some ramps, stop lights are used to slow down merging traffic, particularly during rush hour and other busy times of the day and night. Thirty-six percent of all accidents occur when a vehicle is in the process of entering the ramp, while another 16 percent happen when an access road is being used. There are several reasons why ramp accidents happen:
- Drivers negotiate ramps at a higher speed than allowed.
- Motor vehicle operators weave in and out of traffic.
- Poor road design that could involve city or state government or the designers of the ramp system.
- Poor road maintenance, which can cause a vehicle to go out of its lane or strike another car.
Reckless Driving
Reckless driving is often responsible for a multi-vehicle ramp crash. Different types of reckless driving include:
- Running a stop sign or light, which places others in danger.
- Failing to yield the right-of-way.
- Racing with another vehicle.
- Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, whether illicit or legal.
- Driving while distracted such as texting, eating or accessing GPS.
Wrong Way Ramp Accidents
Some multi-vehicle ramp crash accidents occur on ramps due to a driver entering in the opposite direction than the flow of traffic. Overall, about 350 people die each year in this country due to wrong way accidents. Some of the reasons for head-on crashes are drunk driving, distracted focus, being unfamiliar with the traffic flow, ramps that are not marked appropriately, bad lighting conditions or reckless drivers. If a bad design of the ramp is determined in the crash, it is important to file a claim in time. Since government claims must be filed within a six-month time period, having an experienced attorney on your side is essential.
