Accident at Elkhorn Boulevard Intersection Injures Pedestrian

A pedestrian accident happened in Sacramento on August 8 after an individual on foot was struck by a motor vehicle that fled the scene. The collision was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as occurring at the intersection of east Elkhorn and Don Julio boulevards a few minutes before 4:00 p.m. Medics with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to assess the injuries suffered by the pedestrian.

Hit-and-Run Driver Sought in Pedestrian Accident

Information was not provided on whether the pedestrian received treatment at the scene or was taken to a hospital for additional care. An investigation is underway by the CHP to discover how the pedestrian accident happened and to find out the identity of the motorist.

Why Are There So Many Hit-and-Run Drivers on the Road?

There are numerous reasons why a pedestrian accident caused by hit-and-runs occurs. Here are a few of the most common:

  • Registration for the vehicle is not current.
  • There is no valid driver’s license for the vehicle operator, and they are afraid of disciplinary action.
  • In the case of an impaired driver, the operator of the vehicle does not want to be arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • There is an outstanding warrant against the driver.
  • Panic sets in and the driver flees the scene.

Accident Compensation After a Hit-and-Run

If the fleeing driver is not apprehended, many clients are worried that they will not receive compensation for their injuries. Furthermore, many fleeing drivers do not have adequate insurance to cover all the damages, or they are not insured at all. We help our injured clients in using their uninsured/underinsured coverage to pay for their medical expenses whether the driver is located or not.

Using an Uninsured or Underinsured Driver Policy

When drivers apply for vehicle insurance in California, they can add an uninsured/underinsured policy. Many California drivers lack proper insurance or only have the minimum coverage, so it’s a good idea to have this type of insurance. Up to the policy limit of your coverage, this optional policy covers all injuries to you and your family. The use of an umbrella policy will cover the difference between the injured party’s minimum coverage and high medical bills following a pedestrian accident.

The Search for Hit-and-Run Drivers

As a result of diligent investigations, our firm and skilled accident attorneys have assisted in locating many fleeing drivers throughout the years. In order to determine the status of the hit-and-run driver and the vehicle, one of the methods we use is to speak with bystanders who witnessed the pedestrian accident. Since everyone seems to carry a cell phone these days, some even taped the accident as it occurred or recognized the driver. Color, make, driver description, license plate number, and even a part of the number can help us put the puzzle together. We also check area surveillance cameras, perform accident reconstruction and use other techniques to locate the fleeing driver.
