Accident on SR 99 Sends One Person to the Hospital in Sacramento
A traffic accident involving multiple vehicles occurred in Sacramento on October 10, which sent at least one person to the hospital. The collision occurred around 4:00 in the afternoon along northbound State Route 99 just south of Broadway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) police report. When officers arrived at the accident scene, a Scion FR-S was found blocking the middle lanes and facing in the wrong direction. A Toyota Corolla was also facing the wrong way on the right-hand side, and two additional vehicles were found there.
Injuries Reported in the Sacramento Traffic Accident
First responders with Sac Fire arrived to assess injuries and discovered one party with a leg injury, whom they transported to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment. Minor injuries were reported to people in two of the other vehicles. The traffic accident is being investigated by the CHP to find out how it happened and to place fault.
Multiple Vehicle Accidents Are Complicated
When more than two vehicles collide, it becomes more complicated in determining fault. Of course, one vehicle precipitated the traffic accident. However, more than one driver can be at fault and share the blame. For example, one driver might have been speeding and crashed into the car in front. However, the vehicle in front may have had their brake lights out, so the other driver had no idea the other car had slowed down.
Reasons for a Traffic Accident
A lawyer with experience in handling a traffic accident that involves multiple vehicles can sort out who was to blame and provide the needed evidence. This allows the client to obtain fair compensation for their injuries. Some of the most common reasons for a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles include:
- Speeding is a common cause of accidents: This is because the driver has less control over their vehicle and needs a longer stopping distance in an emergency.
- Distracted driving causes many accidents: Distracted driving has become the number one reason for accidents as drivers text, talk on a cell phone, or other activities, which takes their focus off the road.
- Drunk driving is still a real problem on the road: Drivers who are drunk have poor judgment, reflexes, and even their vision is affected. This easily leads to a traffic accident.
- Reckless driving is common: A reckless driver may cut in and out of traffic, run a red light, speed, tailgate, and exhibit other behaviors that lead to accidents.
Conducting an Accident Investigation
Evidence must be gathered to prove a client’s claim for personal injury damages following a Sacramento traffic accident. Fortunately, our investigators are highly experienced in collecting that evidence. They are careful to review the police report to ensure it has no mistakes in it and they look for corroborating evidence from witnesses to the crash.
The investigators perform accident reconstruction and look for area traffic surveillance cameras. In addition, they check for maintenance problems in the roadway and surrounding area that might have caused the crash. These maintenance problems may include potholes, malfunctioning lights, poor lighting, or weakened or aged guardrails.
Once the evidence has been gathered, our lawyers work hard to build a strong case that supports our client’s compensation claim. In many cases, it is used when negotiating on the client’s behalf with the insurance company. If this proves to have an unsatisfactory outcome, the evidence can be used in civil court to obtain the compensation our client deserves.
