Disabled Vehicle on Highway 50 Causes Fatal Accident

A traffic fatality occurred in Sacramento on August 21 after a disabled car was struck. The accident occurred along westbound Highway 50 close to the on-ramp for Howe Avenue around 7:50 in the morning. The incident report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that when officers arrived, they discovered both vehicles ablaze in the number three lane.

Details of the Traffic Fatality Accident

According to the police report, a disabled Jeep in the lane was struck by a Ford, whose driver was unaware of the car that had stopped. Both vehicles caught fire following the traffic fatality, and the Jeep driver died as a result. The Ford driver was uninjured.

Investigation Into Fatal Accident Underway

An investigation into the collision is underway by the CHP. The name of the deceased driver has not been released pending notification of the family by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Losing a Loved One in a Traffic Fatality Accident

It’s always difficult enough to lose someone you love, but when it happens because of a negligent driver, it becomes harder to deal with the loss. Family members not only feel grief-stricken but confused and angry. Later, they may discover that they’ve suffered a large financial loss, especially if the deceased loved one contributed to the support of the household.

By filing a wrongful death claim, they can recover the financial harm done to them and obtain justice with the help of an injury attorney. We’ve successfully handled many wrongful death claims over the years and work hard to recover the damages the family deserves. No one should lose a loved one to the negligent actions of another and have to take the financial loss too.

Damages Recovered in a Wrongful Death

Members of the deceased person’s immediate family can join in a wrongful death lawsuit to recover damages either from the at-fault party’s insurance company or by taking the case to court. Recoverable damages include:

  • The family can recover the cost of the funeral and burial expenses.
  • The lost financial support the deceased provided through their job can be recovered until that person would have reached retirement age. This includes pension benefits, any regular bonuses and insurance.
  • Loss of inheritance is recoverable, which is the value the decedent would have added to his or her estate had they lived.
  • The surviving spouse can claim damages due to losing their loved one for the loss of moral support, affection and consortium that existed between them as marriage partners.
  • The loss of parental guidance can be claimed by children in the family, which includes the deceased’s moral teachings, training, and care.
  • Household services provided by the deceased loved one are recoverable. This can include work performed inside and outside the home, pet and vehicle care, travel provided to household members, laundry, and care of the adults or children in the home.
