Driver Dies in Sacramento Crash After Overturning North of Fruitridge Road
A traffic fatality occurred in Sacramento on August 7 when a vehicle left the freeway. The accident happened along Interstate 5 around 1:22 a.m. Officers with the Sacramento Police Department and California Highway Patrol (CHP) were both involved in determining what happened.
Police Discover Vehicle on Riverside Boulevard
A vehicle was reported as overturned onto the right-hand side of Riverside Boulevard and 25th Street with debris strewn across the lanes. Police determined that the vehicle had struck a barrier while heading southbound on the I-5 just north of Fruitridge Road. The collision caused the vehicle to exit the freeway where it struck a tree.
Accident Results in Traffic Fatality
The vehicle ended up on its wheels. However, it was quickly determined that the driver inside had expired and was declared deceased by first responders and the County Coroner, who arrived at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of the next of kin.
Rollover Accidents
Rollovers can cause serious injury or death. This is especially true when the vehicle’s roof does not have the support required by law. This causes roof crush injuries. It is important that the vehicle is preserved, so investigators with a personal injury law firm can check to see if the manufacturer reneged on their responsibility. If so, the manufacturer would be held responsible for an individual’s death.
Losing a Loved One in a Traffic Fatality
Being told a loved one has died in a traffic accident causes emotions ranging from disbelief to grief and distress. Finding out that your loved one died due to another’s negligence causes anger that such an injustice happened. That is where a wrongful death lawyer can help. By filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the person or entity that was responsible for their loved one’s untimely demise, justice can be served.
What Is a Wrongful Death Lawsuit?
Like any other personal injury case, a wrongful death claim takes the negligent person to task for causing injury or death. However, in this case, the decedent is no longer able to fight for themselves. The family fights to receive justice for them.

Who Can File a Wrongful Death Claim?
The following family members are able to file a wrongful death claim in California:
- Spouse
- Punitive or assumed spouse without the benefit of legal documents
- Children of the decedent
- Adopted children of the decedent as long as they lived in the home for 180 days per year and received at least 50 percent of their support from the decedent
- Parents and siblings if no other family members are available
Providing Emotional Support After a Wrongful Death
It is always a trying time for the family when a loved one is lost. However, wrongful death can be much worse. They are thinking whether they could have prevented it, what precipitated it and how they can continue on with such grief. Some ways in which friends and other family members can help include:
- Call the family to express your sympathy. Sending a card to the home or flowers to the funeral is welcome too.
- Send over food to the house. This can be something prepared at home or delivered from a restaurant.
- Visit the family or call to offer assistance. This can involve offering to cut the grass, babysit the children, or run errands.
- Offer to accompany the family member who is making the funeral and burial arrangements. This difficult task is made easier if someone who isn’t a family member goes along.
