Accident at US 50 Connector Involves Two Vehicles

A two-vehicle crash at a freeway connector in Sacramento on May 7 resulted in injuries to at least one person. The collision occurred along eastbound US 50 at the northbound 51 connector around 12:37 p.m. A Toyota 4Runner and Honda Accord were involved, according to the incident report filed by the California Highway Patrol (CHP)

One Person Transported to Hospital After Two-Vehicle Crash

One person, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, was transported to a hospital with injuries before the arrival of the CHP. Sacramento Fire Department emergency responders reported that other injuries in the collision were minor. The incident is being investigated by authorities to determine which driver was at fault and how the collision occurred.

Reasons a Two-Vehicle Crash Happens

Accidents involving two vehicles occur frequently, ranging from rear-end collisions to broadside crashes. They include:

  • Rear-end crashes: On city streets as well as highways, rear-end collisions are a common occurrence. A vehicle’s type and speed of impact determine how much damage is inflicted. An accident involving a passenger car moving at a slow speed will cause fewer serious injuries than one involving a vehicle traveling at highway speeds. Common injuries in a rear-end two-vehicle crash include cervical sprain, often called whiplash, bone fractures and traumatic brain injuries to fatal ones. Vehicles in the rear are typically at fault in these crashes.
  • T-bone accidents: These accidents occur when a drunk or distracted driver rushes through an intersection, often violating a red light. Typically, broadside accidents involve serious injuries since fewer safety devices are found on a vehicle’s side and metal reinforcement is weaker than in the front or back. Traumatic brain injury and pelvic fractures are common types of trauma associated with a two-vehicle crash of this type. Both types of injuries are serious and usually require surgical intervention and a long period of rehabilitation to recover. Drivers who cause broadside accidents are generally held liable.
  • Head-on two-vehicle crash: Head-on collisions are fortunately in the minority when it comes to the different types of two-vehicle accidents, but when they do occur, they are often fatal or cause catastrophic injuries. In this case, both vehicles’ momentum is a factor in the impact. The speeds of both vehicles combine on impact, which makes the two-vehicle crash a devastating event. It is most likely that a head-on collision will occur if a driver is drunk or distracted. In fatal traffic crashes, head-on collisions account for about 18 percent of all accidents.
  • Rollover accidents: Speeding is often the cause of rollover accidents. Taking a curve at high speed is one of the most common reasons for rollover accidents because the driver loses control and hits another vehicle, causing a rollover. There are locations, though, where there are no warning signs to remind drivers a dangerous curve is approaching. Damages could be the responsibility of the government agency that maintains roads, including signage. Claims against the government must be filed within six months of the date of the event. The injury lawyer coordinates the timely filing of all documents.
  • Roof crush: Rollover accidents can result in roof crush as well. It is the responsibility of manufacturers to ensure that the strength of the infrastructure supports the roof when the vehicle rolls. Its absence will cause the roof to collapse, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. Manufacturers can be held responsible in this case by filing an auto product liability claim.
