Accident Along Bruceville Road Injures Scooter Rider

A scooter accident occurred with a motor vehicle in Sacramento on November 6, which caused injuries to the rider. The collision occurred around 2:35 in the afternoon on Bruceville Road near Kaiser Permanente South Medical Center. It was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that the scooter ended up pinned underneath the vehicle.

One Person Reported Injured in Scooter Accident

The individual who was struck was escorted to the emergency room for evaluation and treatment. The scooter accident is under investigation to find out how it happened. It was not reported whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident.

Scooter Accidents

Scooter riders are vulnerable to serious injuries because of their low profile. The popularity of scooters has seen a massive rise in injuries over the past few years. Between 2014 and 2018, around 40,000 riders were treated in emergency rooms around the country. Electric scooters such as Uber and Lyft, because they are easy to rent, have contributed to the number of accidents resulting in injuries in the area. Some of the most common injuries suffered in a scooter accident include:

  • Broken bones: Fractures take time to heal, and some can be complex, which can require pinning or plates. This can extend the period of time needed to heal after a scooter accident as well as prevent the injured person from working. Our lawyers are experienced in handling scooter accident cases.
  • Traumatic brain injuries: From concussions to serious trauma such as bleeding inside the brain, these injuries can cause problems for a long time. Even a concussion can take a long time to heal and cause headaches, dizziness and a change in personality. More serious traumatic brain injuries can require extensive hospitalization and can permanently affect an individual’s life for the worse.
  • Spinal cord damage: Injuries to the spinal cord may cause either temporary or permanent paralysis. The extent depends on where the injury occurred. Those who are partially or totally paralyzed generally need some assistance in their everyday life. Others may require around-the-clock care.
  • Abdominal trauma: Internal bleeding or organ damage can occur in a scooter accident. This can require emergency surgery to repair because abdominal trauma is often life-threatening.
  • Chest injuries: If a scooter rider is injured in the chest area, it can cause heavy bruising, fractured ribs, a punctured lung or even heart damage. Breaking a collarbone in an accident is common.

When you’ve suffered an injury in a scooter accident that was caused by a negligent driver or defective product, our experienced lawyers can help you obtain compensation. This way, your medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering can be recovered. This can allow you to spend your time recovering without the anxiety of facing a big financial loss.

Scooter Accident Investigations

Negligence by a motorist or other entity must be proven in order for someone with a scooter accident injury to place a claim for compensation. Our investigators are adept at collecting that evidence. Some of the areas they will look in include checking the scooter itself for defects, which means the manufacturer and others may be held liable in a product liability lawsuit.

The investigators perform accident reconstruction and search for traffic and business surveillance cameras that may have captured the accident on tape. The police report is examined for errors, and interviews are conducted with witnesses. In addition, the investigators look for maintenance problems in the roadway that might have caused the scooter accident. The government entity charged with maintaining the area may be held liable in these cases.
