An intersection accident in north Napa caused critical pedestrian injuries recently. The injured pedestrian was transported for treatment to Providence Queen of the Valley Medical Center. Southbound Jefferson Street was shut down in the area as well as a portion of El Capital as an investigation was conducted into the accident by authorities. The woman who was driving the BMW remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation into the incident.

Investigation Conducted Into Accident Resulting in Serious Pedestrian Injuries

It appeared from the investigation that the injured pedestrian had been walking northbound along Jefferson, while the driver was going east along El Capitan. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be a factor in the crash. Napa police are seeking video footage and witnesses to the accident. Pedestrian Injuries in Accidents

Pedestrians are often injured severely in accidents with motor vehicles due to their vulnerability. An accident can result in the following types of serious pedestrian injuries:

  • A pedestrian’s upper legs are often broken when struck by a motor vehicle in an accident. Trauma to the fibula or tibia takes a long time to heal. Upper extremity injuries to the arms, hands, and wrists occur if the pedestrian is thrown into the air by attempting to brace themselves in their fall.
  • A pedestrian can suffer a traumatic brain injury if they land on the hood of a vehicle and hit the windshield, as is common. TBIs cause concussions, fractured skulls hemorrhage, among others, and some are life-threatening, requiring surgeries to repair.
  • Spinal cord damage: The spinal cord can become permanently or temporarily paralyzed following trauma to the body. Continuing medical care and health assistance is often required in these cases.

  • A person’s lost wages due to being unable to work are recoverable. In addition to wages, tips, bonuses, insurance coverage, and pensions are recoverable.
  • You can recover pain and suffering compensation, including the emotional and psychological effects of the trauma. The pedestrian may develop post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the major injury accident, requiring professional treatment. This is recoverable also.
